Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive an indication that tone reservation is to be applied to one or more subcarriers for one or more downlink communications. The UE may transmit one or more uplink signals, using the one or more subcarriers, for measurement by a base station. The UE may receive the one or more downlink communications having the tone reservation applied to the one or more subcarriers, the one or more subcarriers having tone reservation applied based at least in part on the measurement of the one or more uplink signals on the one or more subcarriers. Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first wireless device may identify a set of data resource elements for transmitting data in one or more symbols periods. The first wireless device may generate, for the one or more symbol periods based on the set of data resource elements, a sequence of a set of pilot resource elements associated with the set of data resource elements, the sequence of the set of pilot resource elements including a demodulation reference signal. The first wireless device may transmit, to a second wireless device in the one or more symbol periods, the set of data resource elements and the set of pilot resource elements. The second wireless device may decode a first subset of the set of pilot resource elements based on a second subset of the set of pilot resource elements to determine the demodulation reference signal.

The UE may receive a preamble in a time domain. The preamble may include a set of modulated bits during a first portion of an initial symbol duration of a slot. The set of modulated bits may include one or more of a first subset of network temporary identifier bits or a second subset of modulation and coding scheme (MCS) bits. The UE may process the preamble during a second portion of the initial symbol duration of the slot based on the preamble configuration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A base station may determine to apply tone reservation to a downlink transmission from the base station to a user equipment (UE), and may select to rate match data of the downlink transmission around selected resource elements for the tone reservation instead of puncturing the data of the downlink transmission. The base station may transmit, to the UE, a message indicating that tone reservation is applied to the downlink transmission via rate matching, and transmit the downlink transmission including the data rate matched around the selected resource elements used for tone reservation. The UE may identify the selected resource elements used for tone reservation based on an estimation of a channel between the UE and the base station, and decode the data of the downlink transmission via rate matching around the selected resource elements used for tone reservation.
