Abstract:
A hydrocarbon adsorber and a thermoplastic resin combined and formed to a porous scavenger for insertion into the air intake system of a motor vehicle engine. The resulting porous scavenger adsorbs volatile hydrocarbon molecules from raw fuel remaining in the air intake when the engine is shout off. The adsorbed molecules are then stripped or purged from the scavenger and reintroduced into the air intake when the engine is next started.

In another embodiment the invention provides an oxygen absorbing article comprising a base sheet, a cover sheet secured to said base sheet to define a closed space there between, a first layer of oxygen absorbing materials in integral layer form in said closed space, wherein the oxygen absorbing materials comprises carbon, iron, refined wood pulp, and water.
Abstract:
The invention provides for a method of absorbing carbon dioxide comprising providing a package containing a product that gives off carbon dioxide, placing calcium hydroxide into the package, and sealing the package to form a sealed package.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for manufacturing one or more oxygen scavenging particles, wherein the particle(s) comprises an oxidizable metal particle, such as elemental iron; an acidifying electrolyte such as sodium or potassium bisulfate and optionally a water hydrolysable Lewis acid, such as aluminum chloride. The method comprises the step of coating the oxidizable particle with a first compound and then reacting the first compound with a second compound to form a third compound, wherein the third compound promotes the reaction of the oxidizable particle with oxygen.
Abstract:
The invention provides for an extended shelf life package comprising a material for mammal ingestion that degrades by oxidation, comprising an oxygen scavenger comprising a transition metal oxygen scavenger, a container substantially impervious to oxygen, wherein the container has a filter suspended in the container, the filter holds the material for mammal ingestion, and the container also holds the oxygen scavenger. In another embodiment, the invention provides for an extended shelf life package comprising human ingestible material that degrades by giving off CO2 comprising a carbon dioxide scavenger, a container substantially impervious to carbon dioxide, wherein the container has a filter suspended in the container, the filter holds the mammal ingestible material, and the container also holds the carbon dioxide scavenger.
Abstract:
The invention provides for an extended shelf life single portion package including a container having therein a material for mammal ingestion that degrades by exposure to oxygen, water vapor, or carbon dioxide, an absorber selected from at least one of a carbon dioxide absorber, water vapor absorber, and oxygen scavenger wherein the container is substantially impervious to oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor.
Abstract:
An absorbent mixture consisting of an absorbent such as sodium or potassium polyacrylate, a fluent wax and a channeling agent. A product consisting of a porous member containing a mixture including an absorbent such as sodium or potassium polyacrylate, a fluent wax and a channeling agent.
Abstract:
A well dispersed oxygen scavenging particulate compounded in a polymer matrix. The oxygen scavenging formulation consists of iron powder with a mean particle sizes within 1-25 um and pre-coated with at least one or more activating and acidifying powdered compounds, usually in the form of solid organic and inorganic salts of alkaline and alkaline earth metals such as sodium chloride and sodium bisulfate. The pre-coated iron particulate is dispersed into a polymer resin by using a conventional melt processing method such as twin-screw extrusion. The oxygen scavenging compound is mixed with polymer pellets in the solid state prior to melting. The polymer resin pellets and the coated iron powder are preferably treated with a surfactant in the dry state to help dispersing the iron/salt powder with the resin pellets. The melt extruded compounds are pelletized and kept in the dry state to prevent premature activation.
Abstract:
