    摘要: An acoustical tile composition based on a gypsum/cellulosic fiber composition which can replace all or a portion of the mineral wool normally present in acoustical ceiling tiles. The gypsum/cellulosic fiber composition is combined with a lightweight aggregate material and a binder to form a composition which is used in a water-felting process to manufacture acoustical ceiling tiles and panels. The preferred source of the cellulosic fiber is a composite gypsum/cellulose fiber material which is prepared by mixing the gypsum and cellulosic fiber material with sufficient water to form a dilute slurry which is then heated under pressure to calcine the gypsum, converting it to an alpha calcium sulfate hemihydrate. The resulting composite material comprises cellulosic fibers physically interlocked with calcium sulfate crystals. Another source of both gypsum and cellulosic fibers is waste (scrap) gypsum wallboard. Expanded perlite is the preferred lightweight aggregate material.

    摘要: A method for the manufacture of very low density mineral wool structural panels on a moving foraminous support wire by frothing a dilute aqueous dispersion of mineral wool is disclosed. The forth, a mass of delicate, non-resilient and non-uniform bubbles among the entangled mineral wool fibers readily breaks, is stripped of water and dried without substantial loss of the highly open, porous structural configuration by a first controlled rate of maturation dewatering followed by brief pulses of high vacuum. Then the open structure is rapidly stripped of remaining water and dried by passing high volumes of heated dry air through the structure with continued vacuum. The drainage water may be recycled in the process to maintain a low level of binder and any frothing aid additions.

    摘要: An interior surface panel such as a ceiling tile is free of PVC materials and otherwise possesses desirable properties that make it suitable for installation in a variety of environments including schools, household and commercial kitchens and healthcare facilities. The panel can include a base mat and a facing material of a polyolefin or polyester polymer or copolymer bonded to the base mat. The facing material is resistant to ultraviolet light and possesses superior scrubbability. The PVC-free facing has a preferred thickness, opacity and surface roughness and a texture pattern that is non-directional and discontinuous. In an embodiment in which the PVC-free facing is white, it has a preferred light reflectance. The PVC-free facing is resistant to deformation under tension. In addition, the facing has low anisotropy; that is, the facing exhibits minimal differences in its physical properties in different directions. The facing also has good dimensional stability.

In an embodiment, the panel has at least one core comprising: from about 0.1% to about 95% by weight of the ground renewable component; from about 0.1% to about 95% by weight of one or more fibers; and from about 1% to about 30% by weight of one or more binders, all based on dry panel weight. In an embodiment, the ground renewable component has a particle size distribution whereby less than 5% of the particles are retained by a mesh screen with openings of about 0.312 inches and less than 5% of the particles pass through a mesh screen with openings of about 0.059 inches. A method for manufacturing such panels is also provided.
