    摘要: External power source for an implantable medical device implanted in a patient, the implantable medical device having a secondary coil operatively coupled to therapeutic componentry and method therefore. A modulation circuit is operatively coupled to a power source. A plurality of primary coils are operatively coupled to the modulation circuitry and physically associated with an article into which the patient may come into proximity. The modulation circuit drives at least one of the plurality of primary coils. A sensor is coupled to modulation circuit and is adapted to sense proximity of a component related to the implantable medical device. The modulation circuit commences operation to drive at least one of the plurality of primary coils when the sensor senses proximity with the component related to the implantable medical device.

The device may form a pumping space adjacent to an epicardial ventricular surface and/or an epicardial atrial surface. The cardiac assist device may include a flexible jacket which at least partially collapses when fluid is withdrawn from the pumping space.

    摘要: An implantable pump system including an external driver. The implantable pump is driven by the external driver during normal operation but may also operate on a-battery. The external driver is used to drive the pump with the mechanical energy of the impeller also being used to charge the battery.     摘要: A hollow tubular element is inserted in the descending aorta. The caudad end contains a pressure sensitive passive or preferably, hydraulically or electrically activated, unidirectional valve. A flexible diaphragm situated in a rigid shell affixed over an opening in the element wall divides the shell interior into first and second variable volume chambers. The first chamber opens to the artery. A continuously operating electrical pump is connected to the second chamber through a closed hydraulic system including a multi-valve chamber. The valves regulate fluid flow to the second chamber in accordance with electrical signals from the heart. Fluid flow is directed to the second chamber during cardiac diastole and away from the second chamber during cardiac systole, causing the device to function in a counterpulsation mode. The work of the heart is decreased and coronary blood flow is increased to promote the formation of new coronary collateral channels and the perfusion of the heart itself. In the event of mechanical failure, pre-implantation heart function is not impeded.

    摘要: An implanted medical apparatus and external power source use the same coils for energy transfer to the implanted medical device as used for transmission of control signals from the implanted device. In one example, implanted circuitry generates a feedback control signal indicative of the load voltage level of a load-generating medical device and superimposes the feedback signal on an inductor capacitor (LC) tank circuit for detection by the external powering apparatus. The external powering apparatus uses the feedback signal to control the energy transfer to the implanted medical device, thus regulating the load voltage at the load-generating medical device. The feedback control signal may be a sequence of pulses whose frequency indicates the load voltage level. Other information besides load voltage level may also be transmitted from the implanted device, such as telemetry and logic information.
