摘要: A vessel equipped with a single screw comprising a propeller shaft positioned on the vertical hull center plane, an upper deck portion which is substantially symmetrical with respect to the vertical hull center plane, and a stern portion having a longitudinal plane passing through a stern end of the vessel. The longitudinal plane of the stern portion is positioned laterally offset from the vertical hull center plane by 5 to 25% of a diameter of a propeller disc plane. The longitudinal plane of the stern portion is positioned on the port side when the propeller shaft is rotated clockwise. The longitudinal plane of the stern portion is positioned on the starboard side when the propeller shaft is rotated counterclockwise.

摘要: An attachment for a bicycle is disclosed, permitting use of the bicycle in water, with relatively efficient propulsion and steering, and also on land, without removal of the attachment. Floats of the attachment are positioned on either side of the bicycle, connected by frame members which are removably attached to forward and rearward portions of the bicycle frame. The front wheel of the bicycle is provided with a solid circular disc, closing the space within the rim, so that the front wheel acts as a rudder in water when steered. Connected to the rear wheel spokes are a series of impeller cups or vanes which strike the water in the bottom of their stroke of movement to drive the bicycle forward. The floats may be of a lightweight foam material, or may be inflatable. For use as an exercising device, the bicycle may be provided with a resistance device engaged against the rear wheel, and the bicycle may be elevated on blocks, via the floats.

摘要: A method of testing air for measuring the chromate and chromic acid aerosols therein, comprises, passing the air through a testing tube after each end of the tube has been broken to cause the particles in the air to become entrained on a filter in the tube and, thereafter, breaking an ampoule of sulfuric acid in the tube so that it flows through the filter and dissolves the entrained particles and brings them into contact with a filling material which is also arranged in the tube and which produces a reaction with the particles of chromate and chromic acid which are deposited on the filter. The reaction produces a violet dye, the intensity of the discoloration being directly proportional to the mass of the deposited chromate or chromic acid. The testing tube comprises a closed testing tube having breakoff ends at each end with holders for positioning an ampoule of sulfuric acid upstream in respect to the direction of testing air flowing through the tube of a filling material which includes a granular reagent layer of an earth quartz and diphenyl carbazide, together with a sorption-active silica gel and a subsequent layer of granular quartz.

摘要: A road vehicle such as a motor home has a chassis provided with a plurality of road-engaging and spring-mounted wheels and with an engine for moving this chassis along the ground. A driver''s station and living quarters are also provided on this chassis. A yacht hull has a deck formed with an upwardly open well whose edge is formed as a seat for the chassis of the road vehicle. Support elements operated by scissor linkages displace the road vehicle vertically into and out of the well, and clamps and positioning pins are provided to secure the chassis securely to the seat, with the vehicle''s wheels hanging freely into the well. The steering wheel, shift lever, and other control elements at the driver''s station in the road vehicle are connected to the drive and guidance systems of the yacht hull for operation of the yacht from this station or a pilot''s station may be provided on the chassis and so connected. In addition a pivotal deck may be closed down over the roof of the road vehicle so as to provide extra deck space.

The fuel in the form of a hydroaromatic hydrocarbon or a mixture of such hydrocarbons is stored near the propulsion system. The hydrogen is supplied to the fuel cell and the hydroaromatic hydrocarbon is supplied as fuel to the other propulsion device.

摘要: A propulsion system for an aquatic vessel is provided. The propulsion system includes a plurality of Magnus-type rotors and a drive arrangement for rotating the plurality of Magnus-type rotors. The plurality of Magnus-type rotors are operable to rotate about corresponding substantially upright axes. The propulsion system also includes a control arrangement for receiving one or more measured apparent wind speeds and for controlling the drive arrangement to vary rates of rotations of the plurality of Magnus-type rotors. The rates of rotations may, for example, be varied as functions of the measured apparent wind speeds and a direction of travel of the aquatic vessel. Moreover, the control arrangement includes a user-operable control for adjusting propulsion provided by the plurality of Magnus-type rotors. The control arrangement is operable to control the drive arrangement to vary a drive applied to rotate one or more Magnus-type rotors from the plurality of Magnus-type rotors.

摘要: An electrokinetic actuator for a propulsion system is described. The actuator includes an array of channels, with each channel having an inlet and an outlet. A reservoir is included that contains an ionic solution of particles. A first electrode proximate to (or deposited at) the inlet and a second electrode proximate to (or deposited at) the outlet are connected to a voltage source. The voltage source and electrodes apply a voltage across the length of the channels to generate an electric field parallel to each channel. The electric field causes an electro-osmotic flow of ions from the reservoir to the outlet producing electrokinetic thrust at the outlet. By varying the concentration of the ionic solution and the magnitude of the electric field, the electro-osmotic flow of ions is controlled.

The engine has a crankcase and a crankshaft operatively connected to the inner race. A lubricant pump supplies lubricant to the overrunning clutch via lubricant passages in the crankshaft. A watercraft having the propulsion system and a hybrid propulsion conversion system for a watercraft are also disclosed.

摘要: In one embodiment, a nozzle of a gas turbine engine may be provided having a coanda injector and a fluidic injector which operate together to provide for a change in exhaust flow direction. The fluidic injector may be coincident with or downstream of the coanda injector and both may be used in high pressure ratio operations of the nozzle. The fluidic injector may be positioned opposite the coanda injector and, when activated, may provide for a region of separated flow on the same side of the nozzle as the fluidic injector. The coanda injector may provide additional momentum to an exhaust flow flowing through the nozzle and may encourage the flow to stay attached on the coanda injector side of the nozzle.
