The present invention provides a method for tinting an optical substrate. The method includes the steps of applying a coating composition containing: a polymerisable monomer having a polyoxyalkylene backbone containing at least four contiguous oxyalkylene units, and an abrasion resistant agent and/or a high crosslinking polymerisable monomer to the optical substrate, polymerising the coating composition to form an abrasion resistant coating layer, and introducing a tinting compound into the coating layer to thereby tint the optical substrate. The invention also provides a coating composition and an optical substrate that is tinted according to the method of the invention.

A process of forming a composite material comprising treating pristine clay with water to form a swollen clay, intercalating the swollen clay with an organic solvent to form an organic solvent intercalated swollen clay by exchanging the water with the organic solvent while maintaining the swollen clay in a swollen state with the solvent. The organic solvent intercalated swollen clay is then treated with a silane coupling agent and the organic solvent intercalated swollen clay so modified is mixed with an epoxy matrix material to form a nanocomposite. The nanocomposite is then applied to a reinforcing material to thereby form a composite material.

The present invention is a coupled radial anionic polymer comprising a polyhedral oligosilsesquioxane [POSS] of the formula [R—SiO3/2]n. POSS compounds having R=vinyl, glycidyldimethyl silyl, and isobutyl have been found effective in coupling anionic living polymers to yield radial polymers having 2 to 10 arms. Radial polymers of the present invention have been formed using POSS octamers and mixtures of POSS octamers, decamers and dodecamers. The present invention also relates to a process for coupling living anionic polymers with POSS compounds.
