    摘要: A pouring sprue is provided which is adapted to be used in a variety of foundry casting operations. The sprue is of unitary construction and is capable of disintegrating when subjected to a predetermined temperature for a finite period of time without an undesirable residue being formed. Prior to being used, the sprue may be readily nested with sprues of like configuration so as to form a compact stack for storage or shipment. The sprue includes a pair of elongated complemental sections which are integrally connected along one elongated side and foldable relative to one another to a closed position forming a funnel member. The opposite elongated side of each section is provided with complemental locking means. The complemental locking means of the sections interlock with one another and retain the sections in closed relation. The interlocked elongated sides of the sections are provided with seal means which form a sealed joint between the interlocked sections.

    摘要: A graphite mold has riser openings lined with an insulator extending around the periphery and substantially across the bottom of the openings. The bottom portion of the insulator is formed of facing sand and phenolic resin while the peripheral portion of the insulator is formed of a coarser backing sand and phenolic resin. The insulator is baked by residual heat in the mold and decreases in thickness from the bottom toward the top of the riser opening.

    摘要: A self-pressurizing feeder head vessel for pressure feeding molten metal into a casting mold is described. The feeder head vessel shown is a dome-shaped, fluid impervious shell with an open bottom, the shell being lined with green sand to define a feeder head cavity. A porous cylinder or an apertured tube is provided at the top of the vessel so that steam formed by heat in the green sand may flow through the cylinder or tube and downward into the feeder head cavity and thus apply pressure on the molten metal in the feeder head cavity to force additional molten metal into the casting mold during the shrinking period. Thus a method disclosed for applying pressure to the molten metal in the feeder head cavity is to vaporize the water in the green sand and apply the fluid pressure thereby generated to the molten metal, and thereby force the molten metal under pressure into the casting mold during shrinkage.
