Abstract:
Methods for multiframe alignment are provided. In one embodiment, a method comprises sharing upstream bandwidth capacity among a plurality of remote units in a manner that permits at least two of the remote units to transmit to a host at any one time using the upstream bandwidth capacity, the upstream bandwidth capacity provided by using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with a plurality of tones; and causing at least one remote unit to adjust the timing of transmissions transmitted on at least one of the plurality of tones in order to improve alignment of multiframes received at the host.
Abstract:
Systems for tone allocation are provided. In one embodiment, a system comprises: a plurality of remote units and a host including a demodulator. Each remote transmits an upstream OFDM signal using a multiple access scheme to the host using an OFDM waveform. The host receives the upstream OFDM signals, the tones of the upstream signals substantially orthogonal when received at the host. Portions of upstream OFDM signals from at least two remotes arrive at the host at the same time. The host demodulates said portions. At least one remote transmits to the host using a first tone allocated by the host. The host sends an adjustment signal to the remote to adjust the timing of transmissions to improve orthogonality of the OFDM waveform. After the remote has begun transmission using the first tone but before the remote has completed its transmission, the host allocates to the remote a different tone.
Abstract:
A method for maintaining the quality of transmission from a head end to a service unit in a telecommunications system that uses a multi-carrier transmission scheme with dynamic bandwidth allocation is disclosed. The method involves allocating a first payload channel to a service unit in a subband of a transmission channel of the telecommunications system and monitoring the quality of the first payload channel. When the quality of the first payload channel drops below a threshold, the method allocates a second, different payload channel to the channel unit.
Abstract:
Adjustable deflector apparatus for transitioning crop residue from an axially arranged threshing system of a combine to a crop residue distribution system is disposed in a position such that at least a portion of a crop residue flow from the threshing system will strike or impinge the deflector and be deflected thereby downwardly and transversely toward the crop residue distribution system. An adjusting mechanism is operable for moving the deflector in relation to an internal side of the combine for adjusting a desired parameter or parameters of the deflected flow.
Abstract:
A process for intelligent importation of information from a foreign application user interface includes extraction of raster data from a pre-designated region of a screen displayed in the foreign application, segmentation of the raster data into prospective sets of character raster data; application of the character raster data and a feature data set and a vector data set derived from the character raster data as inputs to respective raster, feature, and vector artificial neural networks to generate candidate characters; using a voting process to identify a character represented by the character raster data from the candidate characters; assembly of the remaining characters as recognized by the neural networks into a key; and association of the key with an external data file which may be stored and thereafter retrieved in association with the screen displayed in the foreign application.
Abstract:
A speculum for use with a body opening, such as a vagina, rectum or surgical wound, may have an insertion portion with an arcuately-shaped wall and a slot that extends along a length of the wall. An end face of the wall at the distal end of the insertion portion may be arranged at a non-perpendicular angle to the longitudinal axis of the insertion portion. A flange portion joined at a proximal end of the insertion portion may have a continuous band that extends radially outwardly from the wall and includes a notch that communicates with the slot. A handle portion may have a gripping surface extending proximally at a bottom side of the flange portion with an arcuate shape that is approximately concentric with the wall of the insertion portion. A top side of the flange portion may be free of the handle portion.
Abstract:
The present invention is a massive body having handles to facilitate maneuvering, and an attached chain. The chain can be attached quickly around burglar bar doors and/or windows and the massive body swung in such fashion as to rapidly carry the burglar bar door and/or window away from its supports. The present invention can then be carried on its return swing into the remaining entry door in much the same way as a conventional battering ram.
Abstract:
An employee incentive program is disclosed. According to an embodiment, an employee account is credited with a first amount when a new customer account is opened. The employee account is also credited when an existing customer account is used. In a further embodiment, the employee account is credited with a third amount when an account opened by the employee is used.
Abstract:
Multi-stage combustion technology combined with nitrogen-enriched air technology for controlling the combustion temperature and products to extend the maintenance and lifetime cycles of materials in contact with combustion products and to reduce pollutants while maintaining relatively high combustion and thermal cycle efficiencies. The first stage of combustion operates fuel rich where most of the heat of combustion is released by burning it with nitrogen-enriched air. Part of the energy in the combustion gases is used to perform work or to provide heat. The cooled combustion gases are reheated by additional stages of combustion until the last stage is at or near stoichiometric conditions. Additional energy is extracted from each stage to result in relatively high thermal cycle efficiency. The air is enriched with nitrogen using air separation technologies such as diffusion, permeable membrane, absorption, and cryogenics. The combustion method is applicable to many types of combustion equipment, including: boilers, burners, turbines, internal combustion engines, and many types of fuel including hydrogen and carbon-based fuels including methane and coal.
Abstract:
A mounting assembly for use with a mounting surface includes an arm, a pin, a pair of clamping blocks and a fastener. The arm has a cylindrical bore at one end. The pin extends through the bore. Each block of the pair of clamping blocks includes a central opening and is circumferentially discontinuous about the central opening. Each clamping block further includes a slot defined by portions of the block. The slot is dimensioned to allow the pin to pass through the slot when the block is in an unclamped position and to tightly grip the pin when the block is in a clamped position. The fasteners extend across the slots and are configured to engage the mounting surface to mount the blocks to the mounting surface.
