Abstract:
A method and apparatus for training a user to operate an external defibrillator, usable in a therapy or training mode, which includes an energy source; an electrode interface responsive to an electrode arrangeable on a release liner and configured for placement on a subject; and an energy delivery system operable to selectively deliver electrical energy from the energy source to the electrode via the electrode interface. The method includes: when the electrode is coupled to the electrode interface, receiving an input signal from the electrode, prior to placement of the electrode on the subject; based on the input signal, identifying a degree of electrical connectivity along an electrical path including the electrode; based on the determined degree of electrical conductivity, advancing the external defibrillator from a first training state to a second training state; and issuing a training state notification indicating advancement from the first training state to the second training state.
Abstract:
A method and Phase Frequency Detector (PFD) circuit for implementing low phase locked loop (PLL) phase noise and low phase error, and a design structure on which the subject circuit resides are provided. The PFD circuit includes a PFD latch receiving clock and reset signals, and PFD output driver circuit providing PFD output signals. The PFD latch is set by the clock and reset by the reset signal. An AND gate coupled to the PFD latch and the PFD output driver circuit includes differential inputs and outputs and applies the reset signal to the PFD latch. The PFD latch, AND gate and PFD output driver circuit are formed by current mode logic using bipolar transistors. An active loop filter generates a tuning voltage output.
Abstract:
A system for protecting superconducting generator field coils including a controller configured to monitor for a quenching of a superconducting field coil of a generator and control a dissipation of a current flow in the superconducting field coil in an event of the quenching, and an armature coil of the generator configured to cause the dissipation of the current flow in the superconducting field coil responsive to the controller in the event of the quenching of the superconducting field coil. A method for protecting superconducting generator field coils including monitoring for a quenching of a superconducting field coil of a generator, and dissipating a current flow in the superconducting field coil via an armature coil of the generator in response to a detection of the quenching.
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen display, applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command. The one or more heuristics comprise: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one-dimensional vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command, and a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, the invention includes a controller that interrupts a CPU based on a counter that uses a decrement step which may increase as high priority data packets are received by the controller.
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method, for use in conjunction with a portable multifunction device with a touch screen display, comprises displaying a portion of page content, including a frame displaying a portion of frame content and also including other content of the page, on the touch screen display. An N-finger translation gesture is detected on or near the touch screen display. In response, the page content, including the displayed portion of the frame content and the other content of the page, is translated to display a new portion of page content on the touch screen display. An M-finger translation gesture is detected on or near the touch screen display, where M is a different number than N. In response, the frame content is translated to display a new portion of frame content on the touch screen display, without translating the other content of the page.
Abstract:
Methods for treating proliferative disorders, by administering reovirus to a Ras-mediated proliferative disorder, are disclosed. The reovirus is administered so that it ultimately directly contacts ras-mediated proliferating cells. Proliferative disorders include but are not limited to neoplasms. Human reovirus, non-human mammalian reovirus, and/or avian reovirus can be used. If the reovirus is human reovirus, serotype 1 (e.g., strain Lang), serotype 2 (e.g., strain Jones), serotype 3 (e.g., strain Dearing or strain Abney), as well as other serotypes or strains of reovirus can be used. Combinations of more than one type and/or strain of reovirus can be used, as can reovirus from different species of animal. Either solid neoplasms or hematopoietic neoplasms can be treated.
Abstract:
In a two-cycle, opposed-piston internal combustion engine, opposed pistons disposed in a cylinder are coupled to a pair of side-mounted crankshafts by connecting rods that are subject to substantially tensile forces acting between the pistons and the crankshafts. This geometry reduces or eliminates side forces between the pistons and the bore of the cylinder. The cylinder and the pistons are independently cooled to reduce cylindrical deformation caused by thermal expansion during engine operation.
Abstract:
A method for managing operating system option values includes receiving a request to perform a function involving an option value in a computing device. The computing device is one of a plurality of computing devices, and at least two of the plurality of computing devices are associated with different operating systems. The method also includes identifying one or more commands associated with the requested function. The one or more commands are operable to cause the computing device to perform the requested function. The method further includes generating the one or more commands, communicating the one or more commands for execution at the computing device, receiving a response associated with the one or more commands, and making at least a portion of the response available.
Abstract:
A communication system for extending range of USB communications that may include a host computer system having a USB host controller, a USB hub, and transmitter circuitry. The USB host controller may be configured to operate using a split transaction for the USB communications. The communication system may also include receiver circuitry that receives a non-USB format of USB communication signals as the signals appear between split start and split complete transaction operations at the host computer system. The transmitter circuitry may be configured to forward the non-USB formatted USB communication signals across an extension between the transmitter circuitry and the receiver circuitry. At least one USB user interface device may be communicatively coupled to the receiver circuitry and receives USB communication signals from a receiver hub in the receiver circuitry. The USB communication signals correspond to the non-USB formatted communication signals that appear between the split start and split complete transaction operations at the host computer system.
