Abstract: A method of decomposing a cured aromatic epoxy resin uses a molten salt bath at less than about 350° C. The molten salt bath includes a plurality of alkali metal hydroxides. The cured aromatic epoxy resin can be in intimate physical contact with a metal or alloy. The cured aromatic epoxy resin can be patterned by a lithographic method. The lithographic method can be multibeam interference lithography to form a three-dimensional photonic crystal template on a conductive substrate for electrodeposition of metal. Contacting the three-dimensional photonic crystal template with the electrodeposited metal with the molten salt bath can form a metal matrix device displaying a periodic pattern that is the inverse of the periodic pattern of the decomposed three-dimensional photonic crystal template.

Abstract: A three-dimensional photonic crystal template on a reflective substrate displays a periodic patterned from multibeam interference lithography with constructive volumes of a cured photoresist composition and destructive volumes that are voids free of mass containing defects and where the reflective substrate is conductive. A method to generate the three-dimensional photonic crystal template includes using at least four laser beams of unequal intensity, oriented such that a dose of light controlled by the irradiation time generates the periodic pattern with a small dose, where the light reflected from the substrate is insufficient to activate a threshold quantity of photoinitiator in the destructive volumes for the formation of any anomalous condensed matter in the intended void volume.

Abstract: A cooling system that includes an expandable vapor chamber having a condenser side opposite an evaporator side, a condenser side wick coupled to a condenser side wall, an evaporator side wick coupled to an evaporator side wall, and a vapor core positioned between the evaporator side wick and the condenser side wick. The cooling system also includes a vapor pressure sensor communicatively coupled to a controller and a bellow actuator disposed in the vapor core and communicatively coupled to the controller. The bellow actuator is expandable based on a vapor pressure measurement of the vapor pressure sensor.

Abstract: An electronics system may include a substrate, an electronic device bonded to the substrate, a plurality of photoluminescent particles disposed on the electronic device, an illuminator, a sensor, and a control module. The illuminator can illuminate the electronic device. The sensor can capture a first set of positions of the photoluminescent particles on the electronic device when the electronic device is not operating under a load and a second set of positions of the photoluminescent particles when the electronic device is operating under a load. The control module can determine thermomechanical stress on the electronic device based at least in part on a difference between the first set of positions and the second set of positions.

Abstract: A two-phase cold plate includes an outer enclosure having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet each fluidly coupled to a fluid pathway, an inner enclosure having a vapor cavity and a vapor outlet, and one or more wicking structures disposed in the outer enclosure. The one or more wicking structures fluidly couple the fluid pathway of the outer enclosure with the vapor cavity of the inner enclosure and the one or more wicking structures comprise a plurality of nucleation sites configured to induce vaporization of a cooling fluid and facilitate vapor flow into the vapor cavity of the inner enclosure.

Abstract: In one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, a power electronic module may be described. The power electronic module may comprise a power semiconductor device, a substrate coupled to the power semiconductor device, and a base plate coupled to the substrate. The substrate may include from 50 weight percent (wt. %) to 99.9 wt. % of a poly(dicyclopentadiene) polymer. In one or more other embodiments of the present disclosure, a method for manufacturing a power electronic module may be described. The method may include disposing a solution on a base plate. The solution may include dicyclopentadiene monomer, a ruthenium-based catalyst, and a trialkyl phosphite initiator. The method may further include initiating a polymerization front within the solution to produce a substrate formed directly on the base plate. Furthermore, the method may include coupling a power semiconductor device on the substrate to produce the power electronic module.

Abstract: An electronic assembly includes a PCB disposed on an end-face of a motor proximate to a first surface thereof and a thermal management assembly (TMA) thermally connected to the PCB. One or more switching semiconductor devices are disposed on the first surface. The TMA includes a cooling jacket disposed around a circumference of the motor, at least one jacket manifold formed through the cooling jacket, a thermal compensation base layer thermally coupled to the cooling jacket and the one or more switching semiconductor devices, and a cooling manifold disposed through the PCB to form a fluid flow path therethrough. The at least one jacket manifold has a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. Two or more electrically insulated posts, each having a cooling channel, are disposed between the at least one jacket manifold and the cooling manifold and form a fluid circuit between the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet.

Abstract: Fan performance can be adjusted based on real-time operating conditions. The fan can include a plurality of blades operatively connected to a rotor. The blades can extend radially outward from the rotor to a tip. A housing can substantially surround the fan. The housing can have an inner peripheral surface that defines an inner diameter. The inner peripheral surface can include a first portion and a second portion downstream of the first portion. The first portion can be adjacently upstream of the plurality of blades, and the second portion can be substantially aligned with the plurality of blades. A plurality of actuators being distributed in a circumferential direction of the housing. The actuators can be operatively positioned to cause the inner diameter of the first portion or the second portion to be altered. As a result, one or more performance characteristics of the fan can be changed.
