    摘要: A communications signal is processed to determine a proportionality relationship between a gain of a first channel (e.g., a pilot channel) and a gain of a second channel (e.g., a traffic channel) from a model of the first channel and information recovered from the second channel according to the model of the first channel. Symbol estimates may be generated from the information received over the second channel based on the determined proportionality relationship. In some embodiments, a gain multiplier may be estimated from information received over the second channel, a channel estimate for the first channel and a noise estimate for the first channel, for example, by generating despread values from the information received over the second channel, processing the despread values according to the channel estimate to generate symbol estimates, and generating the estimate of the gain multiplier from the noise estimate and the symbol estimates. Methods, apparatus and computer program products are provided.

    摘要: Information encoded in a transmitted spread spectrum signal included in a composite signal is recovered. The composite signal is received from the communications medium, and correlated with a desired spreading sequence to produce a plurality of time-offset correlations. Weighting factors are generated based on knowledge of spread spectrum signals in the composite signal. The correlations are combined according to the weighting factors to estimate information encoded in the transmitted spread spectrum signal. According to one aspect, a composite channel response is estimated from knowledge of the desired spreading sequence and an impairment correlation is determined from an estimate of power of an interfering spread spectrum signal and an estimate of power of noise in the composite signal. The composite channel response and impairment correlation are used to generate the weighting factors. According to another aspect, weighting factors are iteratively generated from an estimated channel response, an estimated impairment correlation, and previously determined weighting factors. Related apparatus are also described.

The communications constraint may include a performance requirement, such as an information rate or an error rate, and a signal reception condition, such as signal to noise ratio. According to another aspect, a wireless communications system determines a communications constraint associated with a terminal. The system assigns a time slot, a spreading code, a coding rate and a bandwidth to the terminal based on the determined communications constraint. Preferably, the system assigns a time slot, a spreading code, a coding rate and a bandwidth to the terminal such that at least one of an available bandwidth, a number of available time slots, and a number of available spreading codes is optimized. Related apparatus are also described.

    摘要: A special coding scheme is disclosed for more effectively acquiring a long code and frame timing during a cell search in a CDMA communications system. A code set of length M Q-ary code words including symbols from a set of Q short codes is defined with certain properties. The primary property to be satisfied is that no cyclic shift of a code word yields a valid code word. The other properties to be satisfied are that there is a one-to-one mapping between a long code message and a valid code word, and a decoder should be able to find both the random shift (thereby implicitly finding the frame timing) and the transmitted code word (i.e., its associated long code indication message) in the presence of interference and noise, with some degree of accuracy and reasonable complexity.

For a system in which the satellite communicates radiotelephone communications signals to radiotelephones located in a first coverage area and communicates radiotelephone communications signals to radiotelephones located in a second coverage area, random access channel radiotelephone communications signals may be communicated over a first dedicated random access uplink carrier frequency band if the radiotelephone is located in the first coverage area or communicating random access radiotelephone communications signals over a second dedicated random access channel uplink carrier frequency band different from the first dedicated random access uplink carrier band if the radiotelephone is located in the second coverage area.

    摘要: Teachings presented herein provide a method and apparatus for processing input information bits for coding using a code, such that the length of the information word formed from the input information bits matches a fixed information word length defined by the code. In at least one embodiment, a coding circuit receives input information bits (and adds error protection bits as needed, to make the information word length match the fixed information word length. The method and apparatus contemplate generating the error protection bits by sub-coding a subset of the input information bits (e.g., parity bit generation), thereby providing extra protection for that subset. These teachings allow the same code to be used for coding feedback or other information, where the amount of information to be coded varies as a function of operating modes.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for determining operating modes in a receiver is described herein. A delay searcher in the receiver detects a signal image in the received signal. When the receiver is a RAKE receiver, a plurality of RAKE fingers coherently combine time-shifted versions of the received signal at different delays. Alternatively, when the receiver is a chip equalization receiver, an FIR filter coherently pre-combines the signal images in the received signal. A processor determines delays. In particular, the processor generates a first signal quality metric for a single-delay receiver mode, and generates a second signal quality metric for a multi-delay receiver mode. Based on a comparison of the first and second signal quality metrics, the processor selects the single-delay or the multi-delay receiver mode for processing the signal image.

    摘要: With the asymmetric resource sharing disclosed herein, a base station transmits fewer information symbols at some transmission times to one or more mobile terminals than to other mobile terminals at other transmission times. After transmitting the information symbols, the base station receives channel estimates from the mobile terminals, which the base station then use to generate synthesized signals representing estimates of the signals received at the mobile terminals. The base station subsequently combines complementary pairs of the synthesized signals to generate combined signals and transmits at least one of the combined signals to implement at least one virtual antenna for at least one of the mobile terminals.
