Abstract:
The polyurethane-resin layer and adhesive layer marking strip composition is conformant to the roadway without tearing, has a high elongation, a high permanent deformation, and a low elastic return due to high molecular weight and high sterical impediment. One example of a high molecular weight and high sterical impediment is a sterically-impeded high-volume aromatic ring which reduces crystallization.
Abstract:
An electrical clip connector for a PLCC or the like comprises a plurality of electrical contacts for electrically connecting with respective leads of the PLCC, a main support body, and two pairs of oppositely disposed latching elements supported by the body for inward and outward movement. The latching elements are inwardly urged for engaging respective different sides of the PLCC thereby to hold the clip connector in operative position. The latching elements of one pair include lower end portions of respective levers pivotally secured to the main support body at respective opposite sides thereof, and the latching elements of the other pair include respective legs depending from the main body portion in cantilever-like fashion. Cam surfaces on the legs are engageable by a wedge-like portion of the lever arms when pivoted to force the legs outwardly in a direction generally parallel to the pivot axes of the lever arms.
Abstract:
A shipping or secondary container, which can safely transport a plurality of breakable primary containers of a variety of sizes and shapes, has a pair of rigid shells that mate. A batt of sorptive material fills each shell, and a normally tacky, discontinuous adhesive layer covers the exposed face of at least one batt. The shells can be vacuum formed from a sheet of thermoplastic resin that is 0.25 to 0.5 mm in thickness. The two shells preferably are identical to each other. To permit them to interlock, each shell has an upstanding wall that is formed with both tongues and grooves which telescopically mate with the tongues and grooves of the other shell.
Abstract:
A termination system for coupling to further circuitry one or more miniature coaxial cables terminated with respective impedance matched terminators each including a center signal contact and a concentric tubular sleeve contact having an external contact surface. The termination system includes a receptacle for a single terminator or a carrier block for a plurality of terminators. The receptacle includes a center pin contact extending along an axial extent of the receptacle, an outer tubular shell contact coaxially positioned with respect to the pin contact and having an internal contact surface for electrically connecting with the external contact surface of a terminator sleeve contact, and a spacer for maintaining electrical isolation and spaced relation of the pin and shell contacts for matching the impedance of the receptacle to that of the terminator and cable. The carrier block for a plurality of terminators is a conductive plate-like member having plural openings for receiving and electrically engaging with the external contact surface of respective terminator sleeve contacts thereby to couple the same to a common reference potential, such as ground reference potential, and is mountable and electrically connectable to a printed circuit board by a port member. The port member serves as a socket mount for the carrier block and, in the absence of a carrier block, serves to protect a plurality of pin contacts mounted to the printed circuit board for electrically connecting with the center signal contact of respective terminators held in the carrier block. Also disclosed are a resistance terminator and a shunt terminator.
Abstract:
Tamper-resistant inner seals that bond firmly to the lips of lidded and capped glass and plastic containers. The innerseals incorporate a metallic foil having a heat-sealable adhesive applied to one surface thereof. The heat-sealable adhesive comprises a paraffin wax or blend of paraffin wax and microcrystalline wax, polystyrene or derivative thereof, rosin or derivative thereof, and at least one high molecular weight polymeric material selected from the group consisting of ethylene/acrylic acid copolymers, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers, ethylene/methacrylate copolymers, and ethylene/vinyl acetate/methacrylic acid terpolymers, and blends thereof.
Abstract:
Miscible blends of solids, non-crosslinked polymers are disclosed. The blends comprise from 2 to 95 parts by weight of a water-insoluble, hydrophobic polymer and, correspondingly from 98 to 5 parts by weight of a hydrophilic polymer. The blends are capable of absorbing at least their own weight in water.
Abstract:
Tamper-indicating package comprising two webs, each of which comprises a layer of polymeric material and a layer of continous filaments disposed in a random arrangement. The filaments are bonded to said polymeric layer. Upon access to the interior of the package, either the random arrangement of filaments will be altered or the polymeric layer will be damaged, thus indicating that the package has been subject to tampering.
Abstract:
A pressure-sensitive adhesive is provided which is a copolymer of an acrylate monomer which contributes to the visco-elastic properties of the copolymer and a copolymerizable mono-ethylenically unsaturated aromatic ketone comonomer free of ortho-aromatic hydroxyl groups by means of which the copolymer can be crosslinked upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation such that the amount of crosslinking comonomer and the degree of polymerization of the copolymer are controlled to obtain a creep compliance value of at least about 1.2.times.10.sup.-5 cm.sup.2 /dyne, the adhesive exhibits an enhanced level of initial adhesion when applied to skin but resists objectionable adhesion build-up over time. A preferred crosslinking ethylenically unsaturated hydroxyl-free aromatic ketone comonomer is p-acryloxybenzophenone.
Abstract:
Ionene elastomers are prepared by reaction of polymeric diamines and certain dihalide linking agents. These elastomers have utility in coating compositions, adhesive compositions, and in the fabrication of elastomeric articles. Certain novel dihalide linking agents are also claimed.
Abstract:
A roll of tape or paper is releaseably retained upon a roll holder by a flexible retention member, carried by the holder and normally outwardly biased to engage the core of the roll. A pivotally connected arm is biased to urge a bearing element at the free end thereof against the outer surface of the paper roll to check uncoiling of the paper sheet. The bearing element is automatically lifted and positioned in response to movement of the roll against a camming surface during attachment of the roll to the roll holder. A detachably securable auxiliary roll holder applies tape along the normally free edge of the paper sheet. Also disclosed is an auxiliary tape dispenser carried by the frame of a portable masking machine.
