摘要: The granular insulation product is intended more particularly for the insulation, protection or processing of metal baths during their manufacture or transport. The product comprises a solid phase having a certain mineral matter content and an organic binder comprising cellulose-based pulp, and preferably paper pulp. The granulation is carried out under conditions such that the granules being formed experience no appreciable compression likely to break the structure of the solid phase containing the mineral matter.

摘要: A composition for insulation which may be used for reducing thermal transmission, for absorbing sound waves and for providing a fire spread barrier, and which may be sprayed on surfaces in relatively thick coats. The composition includes a blended mixture of cellulose fiber, mineral wool, boric acid and expanded silicate glass. The blended fibers are mixed with an adhesive and sprayed on a surface to be insulated, and the adhesive preferably is a fire retardant, nontoxic adhesive which remains flexible after it has dried so that expansion or contraction of the insulation or the insulated surface will not result in cracks in the insulation.

摘要: A method of making a composite article and a composite article specifically adapted for use in high temperature, corrosive and errosive environments comprising a carbon fibrous substrate, including a pyrolytic carbon sheath formed about each fiber of the substrate; a metallic carbide, oxide, or nitride compliant coating over the coated fibers of the substrate; and an impermeable metallic carbide, oxide or nitride outer protective layer formed about the entire periphery of the coated substrate. In accordance with the method of the invention, the compliant metallic coating is applied to the fibers in a manner such that any mechanical stresses built-up in the substrate due to a mismatch between the coefficient of thermal expansion of the fibrous substrate and the coating are effectively accomodated.

摘要: A ceramic sheet comprising 5 to 50 wt. % (absolute dry weight) of a cation-modified pulp having a degree of substitution of cationic group of 0.02 to 0.04 and beaten to freeness of 200 to 100 ml C.S.F. and 50 to 95 wt. % of fine inorganic particles dispersed uniformly in and supported by said cation-modified pulp. This ceramic sheet can be easily prepared from an aqueous suspension of the cation-modified pulp and the fine inorganic particles by using a paper-making treatment.

摘要: The present invention contemplates a process for producing a reactor cylinder for use in a radiant heater and the reactor cylinder produced by that process. A liquid vehicle is initially prepared including an alumina dispersion, magnesium sulfate, colloidal silica and powdered talc. An antifoam agent may be added. The alumina dispersion includes dispersable alumina in an amount between about 1% and about 5% by weight, an acid in an amount up to about 0.2% by weight and water in an amount between about 10% and about 30% by weight, all calculated as weight precent based on the weight of the liquid vehicle. The alumina dispersion is then further diluted by the addition of water in an amount between about 40% and about 80% by weight. To the diluted alumina dispersion is added magnesium sulfate in an amount up to about 4% by weight, colloidal silica in an amount up to about 10% by weight and powdered talc in an amount between about 0.0001% and about 0.1% by weight. A solid alumina and silica fiber composition is then added to the vehicle in a ratio of about 10 grams of solid fiber per gallon of vehicle. The mixture or slurry is then chopped, blended and vacuum molded about a mandrel to form the reactor cylinder.

摘要: A light-weight, thermally resistant, shock-resistant refractory for covering a water pipe in a high-temperature environment. The refractory shape is a partial cylinder including a body segment, two protuberances spaced apart from and on either side of the body segment by corresponding recesses and terminating in a void between the two protuberances. Two identical segments, when axially aligned in juxtaposition, are fitted together around a pipe such that the body segment of each refractory shape is intimately received by the corresponding void of the opposite refractory shape and the pair of protuberances of one shape are closely received and interlocked with the corresponding pair of recesses in the opposing shape to form a substantially cylindrical refractory covering around the pipe. The shape requires no additional means to support itself around the pipe.

摘要: A neutron protection thermal insulating material is obtained by adding a boron compound and, if necessary, a hydrous compound, to chrysotile asbestos fibers. To form the material, the asbestos is opened with the use of a surface active agent in the presence of water. The boron compound is added and air bubbles are incorporated into the mixture which is then dried, molded and compressed. The resulting product is characterized by a construction wherein the opened asbestos fibers are oriented in substantially parallel relation to each other and in the direction perpendicular to the compression direction and air pockets are flatly arranged between the fibers and substantially parallel thereto to reduce thermal conduction through the material in the direction parallel to the direction of compression.

摘要: A method of a ceramic fibre lining to a furnace comprises forming strips of fibre by making transverse cuts through a ceramic fibre blanket in which the axes of the fibres are substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the blanket, said cuts being made at an acute angle to the major faces of the blanket, and arranging the strips on the furnace wall to be lined with a thus cut face against the said wall. The invention provides also furnaces lined according to said method and prefabricated lining modules having a backing and a lining made according to said method.
