Abstract:
A unbonded flexible pipe with a length and a longitudinal axis is described. The pipe comprises an innermost sealing sheath defining a bore, at least one armor layer surrounding the inner sealing sheath and at least one optical fiber containing layer, wherein the optical fiber containing layer comprises at least one tape and at least one optical fiber arranged with a length of at least about 3 times the length of the flexible pipe. In an embodiment the optical fiber is incorporated into the at least one tape of said optical fiber containing layer to provide an integrated fiber tape where advantageously the optical fiber is arranged with S-shaped folds.

A leakage detection system configured to detect hydrocarbon leakage from an underwater pipeline in a body of water having a sensor configured to acquire signals related to the temperature of a liquid inside a chamber that is not watertight and which, in use, is full of water and extends along a portion of underwater pipeline susceptible to leakage, and a control unit, which is connected to the sensor and is configured to control if the temperature of the liquid in the chamber is within an expected range and emit a leakage signal when the temperature of the liquid in the chamber is outside the expected range.
Abstract:
A test plug for insertion into and plugging of an open end of an elbow pipe is provided. The test plug includes a resilient sealing element and set of gripper segments carried on a shaft. The set of gripper segments are movable relative to the shaft between pipe-gripping and pipe-non-gripping positions such that, when the test plug is placed in sealing and gripping engagement relative to an inner diameter wall of an elbow pipe, the set of gripper segments are positioned in eccentric relation to at least one of the sealing element and the shaft
Abstract:
A persistent color change liquid indicator includes a backing layer, a penetration layer, and a reaction layer. The backing layer has an indication color. The penetration layer includes a liquid structure to allow a liquid to travel through the penetration layer to the reaction layer. The penetration layer is opaque when dry and translucent when exposed to the liquid is to allow the indication color to be visible. The reaction layer reacts to the presence of the liquid such that the visibility of the indication color persists after exposure to the liquid ceases.

Abstract:
Natural gas is produced when LNG that is contained in an insulated LNG cargo tank(s) of a non-self-propelled LNG carrier (i.e., a barge) evaporates as a result of heat leakage through the walls of the insulated cargo tank(s). The natural gas is transferred from the barge to a tugboat or a towboat that is equipped with natural gas burning engines through a flexible gas transfer assembly so that the tugboat is powered by the natural gas fuel. The pressure in the cargo tank(s) on the barge is, therefore, effectively managed to prevent or substantially reduce the buildup of pressure within the LNG cargo tank(s). The LNG can then be contained within the LNG cargo tank(s) for an appropriate period of time and can be delivered at an appropriate and acceptable equilibrium pressure and temperature.
Abstract:
A method of documenting installation of a fluid handling device in a fluid flow system using a form and an identification device. The identification device has a first portion with first identification information and a second portion with second identification information. The method comprises installing the fluid handling device in the fluid flow system. The method further comprises checking for leaks associated with the fluid handling device installed in the fluid flow system. The second portion of the identification device is separated from the fluid handling device while the first portion of the identification device remains coupled to the fluid handling device after checking for leaks. The second portion of the identification device is then affixed to the form.
Abstract:
A swivel joint comprises a tubular female member which is rotatably connected to a tubular male member. The female member includes a female race portion having an axially extending inner annular recess, a female inner end portion which is formed at an axially inner end of the recess, and a number of inner annular grooves which are formed in the recess coaxially therewith. The male member includes a male race portion having an annular outer surface which is configured to be received in the recess, a male nose portion which is formed at an end of the male race portion, and a number of outer annular grooves which are formed on the outer surface coaxially therewith. The male race portion is positioned in the female race portion such that the male nose portion is located adjacent the female inner end portion and each outer groove is aligned with a corresponding inner groove to thereby define a number of annular bearing races within which a plurality of balls are received to thereby rotatably connect the male member to the female member. The swivel joint includes a first primary seal which is positioned between the male nose portion and the female inner end portion, and a second primary seal which is positioned between the male nose portion and the female inner end portion radially outwardly of the first primary seal. The male and female members define a flow bore through the swivel joint which is sealed by the first primary seal and, in the event of a failure of the first primary seal, the second primary seal
Abstract:
The inventive concept relates to a device that detects a leak of a liquid leaked from a sinkhole, water pipe or oil pipeline under the ground. In the detection device of the inventive concept, a plurality of reception devices disposed on the surface of the earth simultaneously receive an ultrasonic signal transmitted from a transmission device under the ground and a radio frequency (RF) signal synchronized with the ultrasonic signal. Also, by measuring an arrival time of the ultrasonic signal by using the wireless signal received by each reception device as a triggering signal, a leak range of a liquid leaked from a sinkhole, water pipe or oil pipeline on a signal path between the transmission device and the reception device is detected.

An apparatus for transporting materials including an electrically conductive substrate and a protective liner being in contact with the transported materials. The protective liner includes an electrically non-conductive first layer coupled to the substrate, and an electrically conductive second layer coupled to the first layer. The first layer electrically insulates the second layer from the substrate. A monitoring device is connected to the substrate and the second layer, and configured to detect an electrical connection between the substrate and the second layer indicative of wear of the protective liner. The apparatus can be in a form of a pipe, hose, elbow, valve or tank, and may be used to transport abrasive materials.
