    摘要: A cryogenic storage tank having inner and outer storage vessels having spaced top, bottom, and upstanding side walls defining an annular insulating space therebetween. Granular insulating material is provided in the annular insulating space between the side walls, and a composite, resilient, insulating blanket, which remains elastically compressible at cryogenic temperatures and which has a flexible, high tensile strength facing on at least one side thereof, is likewise provided in the annular insulating space. The compressibility of the blanket compensates for dimensional changes in the annular insulating space, which would otherwise cause attrition of the granular insulating material, and the high tensile strength flexible facing on the blanket prevents local tearing or rupturing of the blanket when subjected to the vertical drag forces of the behavior of the granular material and due to the thermally induced changes in the dimensions of the annular insulating space.A composite, resilient, insulating blanket provided by a sheet of fiber glass having a flexible layer of high tensile strength fiber glass bonded thereto by a fused film of polyethylene to increase the tensile strength of the blanket.A method of making a composite, compressively resilient, high tensile strength, insulating blanket useable at cryogenic temperatures.

    摘要: A liquid storage tank of the type which has a base, an annular concrete sidewall seated on the base and free to shift laterally thereon as it shrinks and expands, and a multiplicity of horizontal tension hoops embracing the sidewall is provided with a multiplicity of tension rods which are anchored in the base and extend upwardly out of direct contact with any part of the tank sidewall and have an upper end portion above the plane of the top of the sidewall. A fitting operatively engaged with the upper end portion of each tension rod bears effectively perpendicularly upon the top of the sidewall to pull on the tension rod and force the sidewall strongly toward the base. Provision is made for lateral motion of the lower portion of the sidewall relative to the tension rods which is necessary to minimize the effect of stresses resulting from wall curing, wall compression during horizontal post-tensioning, expansion and contraction.

    摘要: An improved bin is adapted to receive and store materials having fluid properties, such as liquids and granular materials. The bin is made of a fiberglass reinforced plastic material, and has a circular bottom arranged to rest on a foundation, and a cylindrical side wall bonded to a marginal portion of the bottom and extending upwardly therefrom. A cable has its lower end suitably anchored proximate the bottom, has its intermediate length helically wound around the outside of the side wall, and has its upper end suitably anchored proximate the top of the side wall. The improved bin also includes a plurality of vertical members, also formed of a fiberglass reinforced plastic material, spaced circumferentially around the inner surface of the side wall. Each vertical member defines with the side wall a sealed tubular cavity extending upwardly from the bottom. A bearing member, such as concrete, is arranged within each tubular cavity and engages the bottom to receive and support a vertical load transferred from the side wall.
