Abstract:
An identification module for one or more passive components in a system is used for storing information relating to the passive components. By storing component information relating to a passive component in a non-volatile memory module, such as a serial electrically erasable programmable read-only memory module, and incorporating the module into a sub-system having the passive component, the component information may be obtained at any time. This can reduce the time required to identify specifications of, and verify operation of, the passive components of a system. The probability of human error may also be reduced.
Abstract:
A collaboration services suite is adapted to support a plurality of integrated telecommunications services accessed by geographically dispersed team members using a virtual team environment (VTE) client that generates a graphical user interface (GUI) for each of the respective team members. Communications sessions are automatically set up by the collaboration services suite in response to request messages generated by the VTE client when a team member initiates a communications session request using the GUI. Team members require no knowledge of another team member's communications device address in order to initiate a communications session. The collaboration services suite includes a VTE server that communicates with the VTE clients, a presence engine that collects and maintains a status of communications devices specified in a current profile of the team member; and, a call server for handling setup and control of a voice component of each communications session completed.
Abstract:
A method and system for fallback to message compose on the calling party's own supervisory (messaging) system on a synchronous call attempt. In particular, where a calling party cannot have a synchronous call with a called party due to busy signal, no answer, reaching a called party's messaging system or the wrong person or other reasons, address information for the called party is retrieved, the call is dropped (disconnected or the call request is discontinued), and a message compose session is established for the calling party, with the called party's address information pre-filled (i.e. destination number, voice mail number, e-mail address, pager number, etc.). In this way, the calling party does not need to take any additional steps to compose a message or to determine the called party's address information or alternate address information and, further, can compose a message using the calling party's own message compose system.
Abstract:
Methods, devices and software for processing incoming communications are disclosed. Incoming messages and calls may be prioritized in accordance with the rank of the message or call originator within the organization. This may be effected by querying an org chart for the organization upon receipt of an incoming communication, in order to assess the rank of the originator. The org chart may be stored in a directory server, and queried by a computing device receiving the message or processing the call. The methods lend themselves to processing received electronic mail messages, telephone calls and the like. In an example embodiment, calls from originators meeting defined criteria may initiate distinctive ringing at the recipient's phone or may signal another device.
Abstract:
An electrochromic variable optical attenuator having low insertion loss, and which is substantially insensitive to the polarization of optical signals transmitted therethrough, is disclosed. The attenuator includes an annular working electrode, and a counter electrode surrounding and spaced from the annular working electrode in a coplanar configuration. Also included is an electrochromic layer in peripheral contact with the annular working electrode; and a further electrochromic layer overlying the counter electrode. An electrolyte overlies and is in contact with the two electrochromic layers; so that upon application of an electrical voltage between the electrodes, the optical density of the electrochromic layer is altered, thereby varying the attenuation of incident optical signals transmitted therethrough.
Abstract:
A method an a system for providing transparent Quality of Service (QoS) and reducing bandwidth usage in an ATM access network uses VC-merge and delivery of content directly through the access network. Root-initiated join proxy messages sent from a service gateway include a merge-eligibility indicator that prompts an access module to merge content delivered through the access networks into a virtual circuit link (VCL) provisioned for the subscriber. TCP splicing is also supported to further improve overall QoS.
Abstract:
The radio network controller estimates respective attenuation ratios of radio signals received by a terminal from transmitters of an active set. It commands at least some of the transmitters of the active set to transmit to the terminal with respective powers such that the difference pi-pj between the respective transmission powers pi and pj of two transmitters i and j is substantially proportional to 1 1 L j - 1 L i , where Li and Lj designate the attenuation ratios estimated for the transmitters i and j, respectively.
Abstract:
A mobile communications network includes various entities, such as a mobile station, a radio network, and a packet data node. In one implementation, the mobile station is enabled for an always-on service. In response to detecting that the mobile station is an always-on mobile station, the packet-data node denies requests from the radio network to tear down a packet data session of the mobile station unless some predetermined criterion has been met.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a service node will recognize an attempt to initiate a call from a first terminal to a second terminal, and automatically provide information to media clients associated with the first and second terminals such that a media session can be readily established between the media clients in association with the call. The service node may be configured to interact with telephony switches that support the first or second terminals, directly or indirectly via a signaling adaptor. In a second embodiment, the service node will recognize an attempt to initiate a call and will route the call to a gateway, which is controllable by the service node. Once the call is sent to the gateway, the service node may provide instructions to the gateway for routing or otherwise processing the call.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to routing incoming calls to a single mobile terminal either through a cellular network or through a wireline network via a terminal adaptor, which is capable of wirelessly communicating with the mobile terminal. As such, the mobile terminal may facilitate traditional cellular calls via the cellular network, or traditional wireline network calls via the terminal adaptor. The mobile terminal is only associated with one directory number, which can be used by a caller regardless of whether the mobile terminal is being supported by the wireline network or the cellular network.
