Abstract: A basic bandwidth wireless local area network (WLAN) device or station (STA) is assigned to a secondary channel. The basic bandwidth STA may be a 20 MHz STA. On the secondary channel, the basic bandwidth STA operates in a wideband mode recovering received data transmitted from an access point (AP) as part of a high bandwidth physical layer protocol data unit (PPDU). The STA and the AP can be members of a basic service set (BSS). The high bandwidth PPDU may be, for example, a 40 MHz, 60 MHz, or 80 MHz PPDU. Once on the secondary channel, the STA relies on the AP to perform channel sensing and scheduling activities, thus reducing power consumption at the STA and increasing the efficiency of the BSS. Several signaling formats are provided for indicating the secondary channel that the STA is assigned to or requests to move to.

Abstract: An access point selects a channel access policy for an electronic device in a wireless local area network (WLAN). During operation, an interface circuit of the access point receives a channel access preference from the electronic device. The channel access preference includes: a multi-user trigger-based channel access technique, a single-user contention-based channel access technique, or both. The interface circuit selects the channel access policy for the electronic device based, at least in part, on the received channel access preference. The channel access policy can also be selected based at least in part on a communication performance metric associated with communication in the WLAN. The interface circuit communicates the selected channel access policy to the electronic device, which subsequently accesses a communication channel and communicates packets with the access point in accordance with the channel access policy.

Abstract: In some embodiments, one or more wireless stations operate to configure direct communication with neighboring mobile stations, e.g., direct communication between the wireless stations without utilizing an intermediate access point. Embodiments of the disclosure relate to NAN datapath scheduling and NAN pre-datapath operation setup and scheduling. The NAN datapath embodiments described herein provide a mechanism through which devices can communicate and provide services. In particular, embodiments described herein relate to techniques for devices (e.g., NAN devices) to propose and confirm schedule updates. The datapath model, and in particular the techniques described herein, may be implemented for unicast and multicast communication between wireless stations.

Abstract: An interface circuit in an electronic device (such as an access point) may provide a targeted wake-up time (TWT) service period (SP) schedule to a recipient electronic device. During operation the interface circuit may receive a TWT setup request associated with the recipient electronic device, where the TWT setup request includes non-availability information specifying one or more times when the recipient electronic device will be unavailable. For example, the non-availability information may include one or more times when the recipient electronic device has limited ability to transmit and/or receive. The interface circuit may provide a TWT setup response for the recipient electronic device, where the TWT setup response includes information specifying the TWT SP schedule for the recipient electronic device that includes at least one of: a TWT SP start time, a TWT SP duration, or an interval between TWT SPs.

Abstract: In embodiments, one or more wireless stations operate to configure direct communication with neighboring mobile stations, i.e., direct communication between the mobile stations without utilizing an intermediate access point. Embodiments of the disclosure relate to NAN datapath scheduling and NAN pre-datapath operation setup and scheduling. The NAN datapath embodiments described herein provide a mechanism through which devices can communicate and provide services. In particular, embodiments described herein provide a mechanism for NAN datapaths to support various levels of quality of service (QoS). Aspects of the datapath development include datapath scheduling, including datapath setup and scheduling attributes, as well as pre-datapath operation triggering and scheduling. Scheduling may include determination of a type of datapath, including paging and synchronized datapaths. NAN data cluster base schedules may be scheduled as equal-sets or subsets of datapath schedules. The datapath model may be implemented for unicast and multicast communication between wireless stations.

Abstract: An interface circuit in an electronic device (such as an access point) may provide a group wake-up packet to a group of recipient electronic devices in a set of recipient electronic devices. During operation, the interface circuit may select the group in the set of recipient electronic devices, where the group includes at least one of the recipient electronic devices. Then, the interface circuit may provide the group wake-up packet for the recipient electronic devices in the group with information that specifies that a subset of the recipient electronic devices in the group transition from a low-power mode. For example, the information may include a bitmap that specifies the subset and an identifier of the group. Note that the electronic device may dynamically define the group. Alternatively, the recipient electronic devices in the group may be static.

A mechanism for wireless stations to pair with neighboring wireless stations to establish secured data connections may include establishing a peer-to-peer data communication session, obtaining device pairing information via an out-of-band (OOB) mechanism, and exchanging device pairing information via transmission management frames to authenticate the peer device. A PTK based on the device pairing information may be installed to protect data frames exchanged at a MAC layer of the wireless station and a session key may be installed to protect data frames exchanged at higher layers.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for conducting peer-to-peer communications while channel hopping among two or more wireless channels, at least one of which is a restricted channel. One type of restricted channel requires the use of DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) or a similar scheme for avoiding use of the channel during certain circumstances (e.g., for radar avoidance). Communicating peers may synchronize a channel-hopping sequence with TBTTs (Target Beacon Transmission Times) of the restricted channel(s), so that they switch to such a channel in time to capture a beacon and determine whether the channel is free. If the channel is free, or if no beacon is received, they may immediately begin or resume their communications. They may also quiesce just before another TBTT so as to capture that beacon. Thus, the peer-to-peer communications do not diminish a peer device's ability to receive and comply with channel switch announcements.

Abstract: An apparatus and methods are provided for initiating a network connection between a first device and a second device. While one or more high-power network interfaces of the first device are in a dormant state, the first device communicates with a second device via the first device's low-power network interface. The first device can determine, based on the communication, whether to establish a network connection with the second device via a high-power network interface of the first device. Next, if the first device is to establish the network connection with the second device via the high-power network interface, the device can wake the first high-power network interface and connect to the second device via the first high-power network interface.
