Abstract: Upset forging is utilized to join formed wire (40) to metal tubing (20). The ends (41) of formed wires (40) are passed completely across the width of the tube and heating electrodes (74) positioned only on the side of the tubing (20) from which the ends protrude and only the protruding ends (41) are heated to a plastic state. Back plates (30) are employed about the ends (41) to facilitate the upset forging process. An improved ISOFIX support is provided wherein a wire (40) is mounted across the width of a tube (20) and a bracket (30) placed over the wire (40) in contact with the tube (20) and these components are held together by upset forging the wire ends (41).

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for forming a bi-layered carpet underlay. More particularly, the method includes bonding a layer of non-woven fibers and a layer of re-bonded foam particles together to form the bi-layered carpet underlay. The layers of the carpet underlay can be bonded together with the use of adhesives, by heating a surface of one or both layers to a soft bondable state for lamination between the layers, by applying a film having adhesive surfaces between the layers, or by other suitable bonding means. The bi-layered carpet underlay combines the soft cushioning resilience of foam with the high durability bridging ability of fiber to provide a carpet underlay that maintains its height or thickness and firmness, while imparting softness and cushioning effects over an extended period of wear.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to an apparatus and a method used to upholster a box-spring frame. A textile tape with a portion encapsulating a draw cord is sewn to the inner perimeter of a border material. The other edge of the border material is sewn to a top cover material. The box-spring frame is placed within this assembly, with the top side of the frame abutting the top cover. This assembly is placed in the attachment apparatus. The attachment apparatus optionally compresses the box-spring frame and is equipped with a pair of tension applicators. Once in place, each of the two draw cord ends are secured to a corresponding tension applicator, and tension is applied to the draw cord. This tension tightens the border assembly edge around the frame. With the proper tension applied, the draw cord is secured to the box-spring frame. The bottom cover is then attached in the conventional manner with a series of staples.

Abstract: An apparatus for cutting a quilted material web having a quilted patterns thereon into panels having a desired length and width with respective quilted patterns centered therein. A first detector detects a center of a quilted pattern on the quilted material web; and in response thereto, a cutting apparatus cuts the quilted material web to form edges of a panel equidistant from the quilted pattern center. The cutting apparatus includes a pair of trim blades that cut opposite side edges of the panel equidistant from the quilted pattern center and a cross cutting apparatus that cuts end edges of the panel equidistant from the quilted pattern center.

Abstract: A seating product, such as a chair, has a frame. The frame defines the seating area and back area of the seating product. A series flexible straps extend across the seating area and back area. In a similar fashion, a series of spring supports extend over the flexible straps and the seating and back areas. The straps and the spring supports hold an inflatable bladder in the lumbar region of the back area. The straps and the spring supports in the seating area hold another inflatable bladder in the seating area. The bladders are coupled to a pump controllable to inflate and deflate the bladders. When deflated, the seating product has a suspension and feel like that of traditional seating products. The bladders can be selectively and individually inflated to provide a customized support in the seating product. The flexible straps provide a suspension surface for the air bladders.

Abstract: Inductively coupled shelving units and storage containers with integrated primary coils, as well as inductively coupled systems for storing and charging tools, are provided. Power is inductively coupled from a primary coil to a device containing a secondary coil. Primary coils may be integrated into a shelving unit to charge devices stored on the shelving unit. Primary coils may similarly be integrated into a storage container. Inductively coupled shelving units may also be configured to receive and hold an inductively coupled storage container such as a toolbox. An integrated secondary coil in the toolbox receives power inductively coupled from a primary coil in a shelving unit. Integrated primary coils in the toolbox then inductively couple the received power to secondary coils in individual devices. Integrated primary coils may provide varying amounts of power.

Abstract: A seating unit that includes a linkage mechanism adapted to move the seating unit between extended and reclined positions, and a chassis is provided. The linkage mechanism includes a seat-mounting link, a base plate fixedly mounted to the chassis, a back-mounting bracket rotatably coupled to the seat-mounting link, a back drive link in generally laterally-spaced relation to the seat-mounting link, and a front-lift assembly that is rotatably coupled to the seat-mounting link. In operation, a rearward occupant force on the back-mounting bracket generates a rearward bias that is converted to a laterally-directed force through the back drive link to the front-lift assembly. Upon receiving this force, the front-lift assembly translates the seat-mounting link forward and upward in relation to the base plate, such that, the seat-mounting link is consistently biased in a particular inclination angle with respect to the base plate throughout adjustment.
