摘要: A biofabricated material containing a network of crosslinked collagen fibrils is disclosed. This material is composed of collagen which is also a major component of natural leather and is produced by a process of fibrillation of collagen molecules into fibrils, crosslinking the fibrils and lubricating the crosslinked fibrils. Unlike natural leathers, this biofabricated material exhibits non-anisotropic (not directionally dependent) physical properties, for example, a sheet of biofabricated material can have substantially the same elasticity or tensile strength when stretched or stressed in different directions. Unlike natural leather, it has a uniform texture that facilitates uniform uptake of dyes and coatings. Aesthetically, it produces a uniform and consistent grain for ease of manufacturability. It can have substantially identical grain, texture and other aesthetic properties on both sides distinct from natural leather where the grain increases from one side (e.g., distal surface) to the other (proximal inner layers).

摘要: The present disclosure provides a method of manufacturing a composite sandwich panel having a core formed of a plurality of cells extending vertically between a first skin and a second skin. The method includes creating at least one first strip and a second strip from a temporary material, each strip having at least one cavity having a succession of aligned half-cells, lining the cavity of the first strip with a fibrous ply, assembling the first strip and the second strip by interlocking the cavity of the first strip with the cavity of the second strip and trapping the fibrous ply therebetween, and trimming excess temporary material of the entirety of the strips formed during the preceding assembly step so as to form a new cavity which forms a succession of aligned half-cells.

摘要: Components having fibre-reinforced composite structures are disclosed. The component comprises a plurality of structural fibres embedded in a cured matrix material and a plurality of nanostructures such as carbon nanotubes extending from one or more of the structural fibres. In some embodiments a density of the nanostructures is at least 107 nanostructures per cm2 of surface area of the one or more structural fibres. In some embodiments, the nanostructures extend from an outer fibre proximal to an outer surface of the component but not from an inner fibre distal from the outer surface. In some embodiments the one or more structural fibres from which the nanostructures extend are free of a sizing agent.

摘要: A self-cleaning filtration media for use in hydrocarbon fluid filtration applications has a first layer on an upstream side and a second layer on downstream side of the self-cleaning filtration media. The first layer is composed of polyethersulfone nanofibers having a diameter of 50-1000 nm (0.05-1 micron) and a basis weight of at least 1 gsm. The second layer is a nonwoven substrate suitable for filtration applications. The self-cleaning filtration media exhibits a dust holding capacity of at least 6 mg/cm2 and a filtration efficiency of greater than 90% for 4 micron particles when the self-cleaning filtration media is tested according to ISO 19438 for fuel filtration and according to ISO 4548-12 for oil filtration. When the second layer includes glass fibers, the self-cleaning filtration media has a dust holding capacity of at least 10 mg/cm2 and a filtration efficiency of greater than 99% for 4 micron particles when the self-cleaning filtration media is tested according to ISO 19438 for fuel filtration and according to ISO 4548-12 for oil filtration. The self-cleaning filtration media also has a fuel-water separation efficiency of at least 99% when a flat sheet is tested according to ISO 16332; and a lifetime of at least 90 minutes when tested with fuel and oil according to ISO 19438 and ISO 4548-12 using Medium Test Dust and a pressure drop of 70 kPa.
