Abstract:
An air bag (20) for use in a vehicle (200) having a border region (22) having a top (24) situated about at least one inflatable region (30, 30a, 30b); the top of the border region configured to be secured directly or indirectly to a portion of the vehicle or component of the vehicle; wherein the border region includes at least one slit.
Abstract:
An airbag is housed in a housing area in the shape of a folded-up body which is obtained as a result of folding the airbag by bringing the lower edge close to the upper edge and elongated in a front and rear direction. A displacement-preventing means is provided at a peripheral portion of the airbag constituting an outer peripheral edge of the airbag for preventing a tape member wrapped around the folded-up body from supping against the folded-up body. The means is formed at an upper end region of the peripheral portion which will be an upper edge of the airbag at deployment and at least either in front of or at the rear of the tape member. The means is comprised of a recessed region or a projecting region that is formed on the airbag itself so as to be engageable with an end edge of the tape member.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an actuator assembly for an airbag module in a vehicle safety system comprising an actuator (10) and a tensioning means (20), wherein the actuator (10) includes a release member (12) which in the idle state of the actuator is connected to a retaining member (11) and is separable from the retaining member (11) by actuating a pyrotechnical ignition unit of the actuator (10) along a predetermined breaking point (13) so as to release a loop (23) of a tensioning means (20). The invention excels by the fact that the loop (23) is formed between two tensioning means portions (21, 22) which are interconnected directly at the predetermined breaking point (13) by a connecting means (30) such that the loop (23) is tensioned around the predetermined breaking point (13) in a self-fixing manner. Furthermore the invention relates to an airbag module, a vehicle safety system and a manufacturing method.
Abstract:
An airbag assembly can include an airbag cushion and a protective flap. In some arrangements, the protective flap is positioned over at least a portion of an inflatable region of the airbag cushion to prevent the inflatable region of the airbag cushion from being pinched due to securement of the airbag cushion to a mounting member via which the airbag assembly can be secured to a vehicle.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an airbag protection device (10) for a vehicle occupant restraint system that includes an airbag mounting device (12). The airbag mounting device (12) includes first and second mounting members (14) which are mounted to the vehicle (100) spaced apart from each other and a cross-member (16) made of bent wire. An airbag (22) is mounted to the cross-member (16) in the folded state.
Abstract:
An airbag device includes an airbag folded into a shape having a base portion, an upper surface opposite the base portion, and a side portion surrounding a portion between the base portion and the upper surface, and a holding member configured to cover the airbag as folded by being laid over the airbag as folded. The holding member has a plurality of cloth piece portions and a single connection portion connecting the plurality of cloth piece portions to one another. The connection portion of the holding member is located at the upper surface of the airbag as folded.
Abstract:
A deployment flap can be used with inflatable airbag to reduce the risk of the airbag getting caught between the instrument panel of a vehicle and an out of position occupant. The manner in which the airbag and deployment flap are folded prior to deployment alters their deployment characteristics, such as trajectory.
Abstract:
An airbag arrangement for a vehicle occupant restraint system is provided. The airbag arrangement comprises an airbag package which includes an airbag which can be inflated to protect a vehicle occupant as well as a sleeve in which the airbag is vacuum-packaged. The sleeve comprises a first sleeve part and a second sleeve part. The first sleeve part and the second sleeve part each include at least one flange portion. The two flange portions are connected with each other and initially protrude from the remaining airbag package, after they have been connected with each other. The two flange portions are at least partly folded such that they extend along an outer surface of the remaining airbag package.
Abstract:
An airbag module has a case-like housing and an open side covered by a protective covering. The protective covering (17), having a pre-set tear line, is fastened at its one end (18) in the interior of the housing (10). With its other, free end (19), the protective covering overlaps the open side (13) of the housing (10) and is secured on a flange (14) outwardly protruding from the housing wall (12) and mounted on the housing (10). The flange (14) has at least one opening (20), immediately adjoining the transition between housing wall (12) and flange (14), for guiding a tongue (22) formed on the free end (19) of the protective covering (17). A holding nose (21) projecting from the housing wall (12) into the opening (20) can be brought into engagement into a holding recess (23) formed in the tongue (22) of the protective covering (17).
Abstract:
The airbag assembly features an airbag cushion, a deployment flap, an extension flap attached to the deployment flap, and a lateral flap. The deployment flap is configured to protect the airbag cushion as it deploys from the module housing. The extension flap is configured to position the airbag cushion during deployment. The lateral flap is configured to allow for proper airbag deployment.
