Abstract: A method for removing sulfate iron-containing compounds from a low- to moderate-temperature metal sulfide leach circuit (1) is disclosed. A reactor (6) within a chloride leach circuit (5) and which is preferably maintained at a temperature between 20 and 150 degrees Celsius may be provided with a catalyst (4) comprising a material selected from the group consisting of: colloidal hematite, colloidal goethite, particulate containing FeOOH, particulate containing α-FeOOH, particulate containing γ-FeOOH, particulate containing Fe2O3, particulate containing α-Fe2O3, particulate containing γ-Fe2O3, particulate containing Fe3O4, particulate containing Fe(OH)SO4, and a combination thereof. The catalyst (4) may also be used with heap leach and/or dump leach circuits (22), without limitation. Methods for using and generating the catalyst (4) are also disclosed. In some embodiments, the catalyst (4) may be used as an anti-frothing agent (e.g., for zinc leaching, without limitation).

Abstract: The disclosure relates to an adapter (200) for converting a naturally-aspirated flotation cell (10) to a forced-gas flotation cell without replacing the naturally-aspirated flotation cell reducer (21) with a specialized conversion reducer (103). The adapter (200) is designed to be located below the naturally-aspirated flotation cell reducer (21) and at a location along the drive shaft. The adapter (200) comprises an outer static casing (201) having a forced gas inlet (210); an inner rotating spanner (204) having at least one port (205) therein; sealing means (203, 224, 225, 226) provided between the static casing (201) and the spanner (204); and, a chamber (213) formed between the outer static casing (201) and the spanner (204). Related methods and apparatus incorporating the adapter (200) are further disclosed.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a mine shaft conveyance safety brake for controlling the rate of deceleration of a free-falling conveyance, operating within or upon fixed shaft guides, in a vertical, substantially vertical or inclined mine shaft. The safety brake includes an activation system, one or more guide clamp assemblies operable for locking onto one or more shaft guides, one or more braking assemblies and one or more brake paths attached upon the conveyance. Upon detection of a conveyance suspension failure or slack rope condition associated with a free-falling or obstructed condition of the conveyance, the activation system is triggered, causing each guide clamp assembly to self-lock onto a shaft guide. Upon further downward travel of the conveyance, the braking assemblies travel upwardly upon the brake paths, generating increasing braking forces in a controlled manner until the conveyance comes to a controlled stop. The safety brake is purely mechanical in nature, as there are no electronics, electro-mechanical controls or hydraulic systems involved.

Abstract: A method of controlling iron in a hydrometallurgical process is disclosed. The method may comprise the steps of: leaching (14, 114) a feed slurry (2, 102); forming a pregnant leach solution (12a, 12b; 112a, 112b); removing a first leach residue (18, 118) from the pregnant leach solution (12a, 12b); and sending a portion (12b, 112b) of the pregnant leach solution (12a, 12b) and/or raffinate (22, 122) produced therefrom, to an iron removal process (34, 134). According to some preferred embodiments, the iron removal process (34, 134) may comprise the steps of: sequentially processing the pregnant leach solution (12a, 12b) and/or raffinate (22, 122) produced therefrom in a first reactor (R1) a second reactor (R2), and a third reactor (R3); maintaining a pH level of the first reactor (R1) above 4, by virtue of the addition of a first base; maintaining a pH level of the second (R2) and/or third (R3) reactors above 8.5, by virtue of a second base; and forming solids (46) comprising magnetite (68). The method may further comprise the steps of performing a solid liquid separation step (36) after the iron removal process (34, 134); and performing a magnetic separation step (64) to remove magnetite (68) from said solids comprising magnetite (68), without limitation. A system for performing the method is also disclosed.
