摘要: Amplifying magnitude metric of received signals during iterative decoding of LDPC code and LDPC coded modulation. By appropriately selecting a metric coefficient value that is used to calculate the initial conditions when decoding LDPC coded signals, a significant reduction in BER may be achieved at certain SNRs. The appropriate selection of the metric coefficient value may be performed depending on the particular SNR at which a communication system is operating. By adjusting this metric coefficient value according to the given LDPC code, modulation, and noise variance, the overall performance of the decoding may be significantly improved. The convergence speed is slowed down so that the decoder will not go to the wrong codeword, and the moving range of the outputs of the decoder is restricted so that the output will not oscillate too much and will eventually move to the correct codeword.

摘要: A switched capacitor circuit (10) is responsive to a two phase repetitive clock signal comprised of alternating periods (.phi.1) and (.phi.2). The circuit includes a first input branch including a first amplifier (A) for charging a first capacitance (C1) from a first input signal during period (.phi.2). The circuit further includes a second input branch that includes a second amplifier (B) for charging a second capacitance (CA) from a second input signal during a period (.phi.1A), and for charging a third capacitance (CB) from the second input signal during a period (.phi.1B); wherein (.phi.1A) and (.phi.1B) alternate in occurrence with one another during successive (.phi.1) periods. The circuit further includes switches for coupling the first capacitance and the second capacitance to an input of an output amplifier (C) during (.phi.1B), and for coupling the first capacitance and the third capacitance to the input of the output amplifier during (.phi.1A). The teaching of the invention provides for the interconnection of several switched capacitor branches without requiring that any two series connected amplifiers settle during the same clock phase.

摘要: A multi-bit cascaded sigma-delta A/D converter (40) has a higher resolution, higher sample rate, and lower harmonic distortion than previous multi-bit cascaded sigma-delta approaches. The A/D converter employs delaying switched capacitor integrators to relax settling time requirements and to thereby ease op amp design for multi-bit cascaded sigma-delta A/D converters. The converter has a true sample and hold input; the op amp amplifies a fixed amount of charge; and nodes are settled with the dc gain of the op amp, permitting greater settling accuracy.

摘要: A system and method for frequency division multiplexed high speed physical layer devices. A next generation Ethernet device can be generated through reuse of existing architectures. Multiple instantiations of an existing architecture can be supported on a given wire pair by frequency division multiplexing on a number of carriers. The multiple instantiations can enable multiple modes that can support different configurations, variable rates, and energy efficient Ethernet.

摘要: Aspects of a method and system for extended range Ethernet link discovery signaling are provided. A local PHY may detect of one or more active twisted-pair wires in a remote PHY in extended range applications. The local PHY may determine whether to operate as a master or slave based on detected pairs. When operating as a master device, the local PHY may correct twisted-pair wire swap information received from the remote PHY before communicating an encoded link length value to the remote PHY. When operating as a slave device, the local PHY may transmit encoded twisted-pair wire swap information to the remote PHY before recovering a link length value communicated from the remote PHY. The local PHY may communicate supported operating modes based on the link length value to the remote PHY. Moreover, the local PHY may enable establishing a common full duplex operating mode with the remote PHY.

摘要: Training, refreshing and/or updating Ethernet link partners for silent channels and/or silent directions of channels may be determined based on control parameters. This may be used to improve energy efficiency in Ethernet communication. Control parameters may comprise a default value and/or may be determined based on prior training, refreshing and/or updating. New values for the control parameters may be generated based on a magnitude of change between current and prior control parameter values or based on performance such as bit error rate. User input may be utilized to determine when to execute the training, refreshing and/or updating. The training, refreshing and/or updating may be done for one or more of a near-end crosstalk canceller, alien near-end crosstalk canceller, far-end crosstalk canceller, alien far-end crosstalk canceller and echo canceller. After the training, refreshing and/or updating, the silent channels may transition to active and/or may remain silent.

摘要: Aspects of a method and system for energy efficient signaling for 100 mbps Ethernet using a subset are provided. In this regard, a network device enabled to communicate over a network link at 1 Gbps or faster may be configured to communicate over the network link at, or approximately at, 100 Mbps by reducing a number of active channels over which the network device communicates and/or reducing a size of a signal constellation utilized by the network device to encode data. The device may communicate according to 1GBASE-T or 10GBASE-T standards. The number of active channels may be reduced to a single bidirectional channel or two unidirectional channels. The signal constellation may be reduced to two or three levels. One or more components of the network device may be unnecessary for recovering data when communicating at 100 Mbps and may thus be powered down, or placed into a lower power mode.
