Abstract: This document describes target curvature estimation considering vehicle dynamics constraints. Some vehicle dynamics models use several kinematic states to predict the paths of targets identified by an object-tracking system. Rather than rely on predetermined industry measurements as the kinematic inputs to a model, an example system instead estimates some of these states using near real-time data output from a tracking filter. This can include estimating position and velocity states, as well as curvature and centripetal acceleration states. The example system is particularly suited at accurately predicting the curvature and centripetal acceleration states, which greatly improves the accuracy of the object-tracking system, and further improves safety in avoiding a target collision.

Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described that implement lateral-bin monitoring for radar target detection. In particular, a radar system, which is mounted to a moving platform, divides a region of interest that is associated with at least one side of the moving platform into multiple lateral bins. The radar system maps locations of detections to the lateral bins, and monitors respective quantities of consecutive frames in which detections occur within the lateral bins. The radar system determines that at least one object is present within one of the lateral bins responsive to a quantity of consecutive frames having detections within the lateral bin being equal to or greater than a threshold. By waiting for a lateral bin to have detections across multiple consecutive frames, the radar system can minimize the false-alarm rate without reducing sensitivity.

Abstract: An electrical power supply device is configured to communicate with a start-stop controller that automatically shuts down and restarts an internal combustion engine in a vehicle. The device includes a DC-DC power convertor and a device controller. The DC-DC power convertor is configured to produce a first voltage or a second voltage that is less than the first voltage. The device controller causes the DC-DC power convertor to produce the first voltage in response to a first signal from the start-stop controller indicating that the input voltage will remain equal to or greater than the threshold voltage and also causes the DC-DC power convertor to produce the second voltage in response to a second signal from the start-stop controller indicating that the input voltage may become less than the threshold voltage.

Abstract: This document describes techniques and systems of a radar system with paired one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) antenna arrays. Even with fewer antenna elements than a traditional radar system, the paired arrays enable an example radar system to have a comparable angular resolution at a lower cost. For example, the 1D array includes antenna elements positioned in a first direction (e.g., azimuth direction) and spaced by a first distance and a second distance. The 2D array includes at least four other antenna elements positioned in the first direction and a second direction (e.g., elevation direction). The other antenna elements are spaced by a third distance in the second direction and by the sum of the first direction and the second direction in the first direction. A processor can associate, using shared angle estimates, angles in the first direction and the second direction for respective objects.

Abstract: The techniques of this disclosure relate to a vehicle lateral-control system with adjustable parameters. The system includes a controller circuit that receives identity data from a driver-monitoring sensor indicating an identity of a driver of a vehicle. The controller circuit receives vehicle lateral-response data from vehicle sensors based on steering maneuvers performed as the vehicle operates under control of the driver. The controller circuit determines lateral-steering parameters of the vehicle based on the vehicle lateral-response data. The controller circuit adjusts lateral-control parameters of the vehicle based on the lateral-steering parameters. The controller circuit associates the adjusted lateral-control parameters of the vehicle with the identity of the driver. The controller circuit operates the vehicle according to the lateral-control parameters associated with the identity of the driver. The system can reproduce the driver's steering behavior while the vehicle is operated in an autonomous-driving mode.

Abstract: A heatsink shield with thermal-contact dimples can improve thermal-energy distribution in a radar assembly. The radar assembly includes a printed circuit board (PCB), the heatsink shield, a radome, and a housing. The PCB can include integrated circuits and other components, along with a thermally-conductive material that covers at least a portion of the PCB surfaces. The heatsink shield includes multiple dimples that thermally contact the thermally-conductive material. The heatsink shield is configured to distribute thermal energy produced at least in part by the PCB components to the housing. In this way, the described techniques and systems permit the radar assembly to better distribute thermal energy away from the PCB components to the rest of the PCB and through the housing.
