Abstract: An implant with an interference fit fastener for attaching the implant to a bone. The interference fit prevents backout of the fastener after the attachment. The implant may include a passage with a first end and second end. The passage may include a first interference section between the first and second ends. A fastener with an elongated shape may be sized to extend through the passage to attach the implant to the bone. The fastener may include a second interference section. During insertion of the fastener through the passage and into the bone, the second interference section of the fastener may contact against and modify or be modified by the first interference section of the passage. This modification may create the interference fit between the implant and the fastener that prevents backout. The interference sections may remain in contact or may move apart once the fastener is fully attached to the bone.

Abstract: A robot is used to pick parts from a bin. The robot has a compliant apparatus and one or more tools are connected to the apparatus to perform the picking. The compliant apparatus has mechanisms for monitoring and/or controlling its compliance. The compliant apparatus can have various embodiments. Force sensing can be used during removal of grasped parts from the bin to determine the force exerted on the picking tool(s). The signal indicative of the exerted force can be used by the robot controller to determine the weight of the parts that may be held by the picking tool(s). Abstract: A pulse-width modulation (PWM) inverter controller compensates for harmonics in the output current provided by a PWM inverter to permanent magnet (PM) motor. The PWM inverter controller includes a field-oriented controller (FOC) that monitors output currents provided by the PWM inverter to the PM motor and employs the monitored output currents in a current loop feedback that generates control signals. A harmonic compensator transforms monitored phase currents into rectangular waveforms having magnitudes modified based on detected harmonics within the monitored phase currents to generate compensation signals. The compensation signals generated by the harmonic compensator are summed with the control signals generated by the FOC to generate compensated control signals. A PWM signal generator generates PWM signals for controlling the PWM inverter based on the compensated control signals.
