Abstract:
A selectively detachable container lid includes a center panel and a peripheral sealing lip surrounding the panel. The peripheral sealing lip has a generally inverted U-shaped cross section so as to define a channel into which a bowl rim fits. The lid also includes at least one ridge formed between the panel and the peripheral sealing lip. The ridge is interrupted by at least one gap. The ridge and the peripheral sealing lip partially overlap when viewed in a direction substantially normal to the panel. The ridge also abuts the bowl when the lid is placed loosely on the bowl. Also disclosed is a container that includes such a lid.
Abstract:
An in-grade light fixture is described herein. The in-grade light fixture has a main housing having an open top end with a lens covering the open top end. A side car splice compartment is adjacent to the lens along an upper portion of the housing. A hydraulic isolation chamber extends vertically downward from the splice compartment to a receptacle which is an electrical connection to a lamping module contained within the housing. A ballast may be utilized for proper supply of power to the lamp if a non-incandescent lamp is utilized. The hydraulic isolation chamber is filled with the potting material and prevents wicking of moisture through the receptacle into the main housing.
Abstract:
A multi-wavelength or white-light optical switch including an array of mirrors tiltable about two axes, both to control the switching and to provide variable power transmission through the switch, both for optimization and for power equalization between wavelength channels in a multi-wavelength signal. The output power of a channel is monitored, thereby allowing feedback adjustment of the transmitted power. The mirrors are preferably formed in a micro electromechanics system array to be tiltable in orthogonal directions and having electrostatically controlled tilting by two pairs of electrodes beneath the mirrors. Input power of the separate channels may also be monitored.
Abstract:
A sunroof assembly (20) of an automotive vehicle employs dual sunroof panes, a pair of movable sunshades and a control system for operating the function thereof. In one aspect of the present invention, a sunroof assembly provides a substantially transparent front pane (22) which is slidable from a covering position to a retracted position and a substantially transparent rear pane (24) movable from a covering position to an open position. In another aspect of the present invention, a sunroof assembly (20) provides a pair of substantially transparent panes in combination with a front sunshade (26) and a rear sunshade (28). The sunshades are movable from a functional position to a stowed position. In a further aspect of the present invention, a control system (32) provides an electric switch assembly (30), electrical circuit and software for operating the panes and sunshades.
Abstract:
An apparatus for clamping, folding and transferring a stack of flexible plastic bag products such as a stack of zippered plastic bags. The apparatus can be retrofitted in existing bag sealers used for producing and packaging a stack of plastic bags in order to produce novel shallower plastic bag products.
Abstract:
A drive shaft is moved in a machine direction and a cross-machine direction to engage a spool on a winder. The drive shaft has an inner drive shaft which is elastically linked to an outer cylindrical shell, thereby allowing misalignment between the inner shaft and the outer shell and allows angular as well as horizontal and vertical displacement when the drive head engages the spool to provide centerwind assist to a roll of paper being formed thereon. The location of the drive shaft axis is determined at all times from geometric considerations and this data is used to position the drive shaft on the axis of the winding spool.
Abstract:
A tool support adapted for use with a tool holder having an elongated shank which is mounted in a machine tool, is useful to support an insert for cutting deep grooves in a workpiece. The tool support has a body having a central body portion and a second body portion extending from the central body portion, which second body portion has a first surface portion adapted to support an insert thereon and a second portion extending arcuately from the first surface portion which is adapted to enter arcuate or circular spaces or grooves formed by the tool in a workpiece. The body portions are preferably integral and preferably includes a portion which engages the tool holder and inhibits vertical movement of the tool support relative to the tool holder and a third body portion adapted to cooperate with a clamping member to clamp the insert to the tool support.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods for isolating and culturing human myocardiocytes from adult human atrial tissue and proliferating cultures resulting therefrom. In one embodiment, the myocardial cells are substantially dissociated through sequential enzymatic digestion and plated on growth medium selective for myocardial cell growth. In another embodiment, the atrial tissue is subjected to only limited digestion to provide an explant tissue portion which is cultured under conditions favoring cell proliferation. Cells migrating from the explant are isolated and subjected to time-based selective attachment and selective growth techniques which result in a myocardial cell culture of approximately 93% purity.
Abstract:
An improved temperature control system for a power conversion circuit having two or more power converters operating in parallel and providing output power to a single load. The temperature control system maintains the temperature of each of these power converters at approximately the average temperature of the power converters. A detector coupled to each power converter detects the temperature of the power converter and generates a measurement signal that is a function thereof. A reference signal is generated that is a function of each measurement signal. A control circuit responsive to the measurement signal of each power converter adjusts the output power of that respective converter as a function of the difference between that converter's measurement signal and the reference signal such that the temperature of each power converter approximates the average of temperature of the power converters.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a heat sink and electromagnetic interference shield assembly for a plurality of semiconductor elements. The semiconductor elements are connected with other circuit elements to form an electrical circuit. Each semiconductor element has a metal portion for dissipating heat generated by the semiconductor element. The metal portion also emits electrical energy as a result of the operation of the semiconductor element thereby causing unwanted electromagnetic interference. The assembly comprises an insulator attached to the meted portion of the semiconductor element and a substrate for mounting the plurality of semiconductor elements. The insulator is of a thermally conductive material to facilitate the conduction of thermal energy away from the semiconductor element. The substrate has a metal base layer, a middle insulating layer, and a plurality of metal mounting areas for mounting the plurality of semiconductor elements. The electrical energy emitted by each semiconductor element is capacitively coupled to its corresponding metal mounting area. The assembly also contains a conductive path for returning the electrical energy coupled to the metal mounting area to one of the circuit elements such that the amount of electromagnetic interference is reduced.
