摘要: An embodiment of the present invention provides an audio message, such as the identification of a caller, without requiring pre-recording by the call receiver, and providing the audio message in the caller's own voice, if they so desire. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a caller may record her identification prior to making a telephone call. The recorded identification would be sent along with each call the caller makes. The caller's recorded identification would be received by the receiver and announced to the receiver. The caller may also record an image to be sent along with her calls such that the receiver of her call may see her recorded image displayed when her call is being announced. Accordingly, an embodiment of the present invention allows identification of first-time callers and infrequent callers without the need for the call receiver to pre-record the caller's identity.

摘要: A system and method for coordinating multi-media messages across multiple systems. A networked messaging system 10 having a plurality of mailboxes 50 according to the present invention comprises a first mailbox configured to receive a first plurality of messages and a second mailbox operably coupled to the first mailbox and configured to receive a second plurality of messages. A control system 37 is coupled to control the first mailbox and the second mailbox. The control system 37 is configured to generate first tokens corresponding to the first plurality of messages. The control system 37 is further configured to transfer the tokens from the first mailbox to the second mailbox and is configured to use the first tokens to access the first plurality of messages from the first mailbox responsive to the second mailbox itself being accessed.

摘要: A system and method for enabling the sender of electronic mail messages to access a recipient's mailbox to reprioritize the messages previously sent by the sender. The system searches the recipient's mailbox for messages sent by the sender and unread by the recipient. An unopened message counter is used to determine the number of unopened messages in the recipient's mailbox. A message review unit enables the sender to review the unread messages. A message prioritization unit is used to reprioritize the unread messages.

摘要: A contention protocol permitting transmission of isochronous data. A device (104) wishing to transmit isochronous data can reserve periodic time slots for the transmission. Either the device (104) or a network controller (101) transmits the reservation information to other devices (106, 108) on the network. When non-isochronous transmissions are desired, the devices (104, 106, 108) contend for access using the CSMA/CD protocols, but taking into account the already reserved time slots. For example, the reserved period may be added to the randomly chosen backoff window. Alternatively, if a backoff window expires during a reserved period, the backoff window may be restarted upon completion of the reserved period. If not all the devices (104, 106, 108) on the network employ this modified CSMA/CD protocol, a "dummy" frame is provided at the beginning of each isochronous transmission. If another device is contending for access, the dummy frame collides, and the other device backs off. The isochronous transmission then proceeds.

摘要: A video conferencing system (10) for providing enhanced security to a conference room. A local video conferencing system (10) establishes a conference call with a remote video conferencing system. A security system within the local video conferencing system (10) monitors activity in the local video conferencing system's (10) conference room and disconnects the conference call if no activity is detected after a predetermined period of time. If activity is detected after a period of nonactivity, users of the local video conferencing system (10) are alerted that a call is in progress. The users are then given the option of continuing or disconnecting the call. In addition, the security system detects the presence of a black screen or no video signal from the remote video conferencing system and if detected, alerts the users that a call is in progress.

摘要: A method and system for initializing ISDN terminals include selecting a set of call service features and formulating a keymap, the keymap constituting a correlation between the selected service features and feature keys associated with the terminal. The keymap is entered into a memory of the terminal and is uploaded from the terminal to a central office without the necessity of a database administrator entering the keymap data into a central office database. Communication between the terminal and the central office can be facilitated by a universal SPID. After the keymap is uploaded, the central office downloads a SPID unique to the terminal for use in future calls made from the terminal. After the initialization of the terminal is complete, the selection of ISDN service features and the keymap may be revised by entering updated keymap data into the terminal memory and uploading the updated data from the terminal to the central office. Additionally, the terminal may be moved from the ISDN line on which it was first initialized to a second ISDN remote from the first line. The terminal may then be initialized by simply uploading the service and keymap data stored in the terminal memory to the central office or, if the data has been revised, by uploading the updated service and keymap data to the central office.

摘要: An improved system and method for delivering messages is provided. A message (18) is created by a messaging system (10) and then sent to a second message mailbox (16). When the second message mailbox (16) is full, the message (18) is then sent to a first message mailbox (14) for storage. The message (18) is later automatically sent from the first message mailbox (14) to the second message mailbox (16) when the second message mailbox (16) is no longer full.

摘要: A safety system for electronic devices having multiple power inputs includes dedicating a different power detector to each power input and includes disabling all of the power inputs upon detection that one input has been disabled. Each of the power inputs is typically a power cord that provides electrical energy to a discrete electrical circuit. Thus, the safety system permits the electronic device to use a different power supply for each electrical circuit, while ensuring that there is no erroneous assumption that disconnecting one of the power cords will de-energize the entire electronic device. In the preferred embodiment, the paths to the power supplies are disabled by opening relay switches, with the switches that are specific to a power cord being in a logical AND arrangement.
