The invention provides a concentrated, dilutable cleaning composition which comprises a novel microemulsion comprising a nonionic surfactant oil phase, a predominant, aqueous continuous phase, a polar organic solvent coupling agent, and a combination of surfactants different from the surfactant oil phase as the dispersing agent facilitating formation of the microemulsion.

A thickened liquid bleach composition and methods of use and manufacture are disclosed wherein the hypochlorite bleach composition includes about 0.1-10% by weight hypochlorite and is thickened by a thickening component including a cross-linked polyacrylate polymer in an amount effective for thickening the composition, effectively reducing bleach odor when the composition is dispensed onto a surface to be cleaned and also maintaining stability of the composition, the cross-linked polyacrylate polymer preferably forming about 0.2-2.0% by weight and more preferably about 0.4-0.8% by weight of the composition, the composition also including a stabilizer for the cross-linked polyacrylate polymer. The composition is adapted for being directed onto hard surfaces to be cleaned. The composition preferably exhibits shear sensitivity or plasticity facilitating its use in the spray-type dispenser.

The invention provides an aqueous, hard surface cleaner with significantly improved residue removal and substantially reduced filming/streaking, said cleaner comprising: (a) an effective amount of at least one organic solvent with a vapor pressure of at least 0.001 mm Hg at 25.degree. C., and mixtures of such solvents; (b) an effective amount of at least one semi-polar nonionic surfactant, said surfactant having the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is C.sub.5-20 alkyl, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are both C.sub.1-4 alkyl, or --(CH.sub.2).sub.p --OH, although R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 do not have to be equal, and p is 1-6; (c) an effective amount of a buffering system which comprises a nitrogenous buffer which will result in a pH of greater than 6.5; and (d) the remainder as substantially all water.

An aqueous hard surface cleaner with improved soil removal is provided and has, as components, the following: (a) either a nonionic or amphoteric surfactant with optionally, a quaternary ammonium surfactant, the total amount of the surfactants being present in a cleaning effective amount; (b) at least one water-soluble or dispersible organic solvent having a vapor pressure of at least 0.001 mm Hg at 25.degree. C., present in a solubilizing--or dispersion--effective amount; (c) Ammonium ethylenediamine-tetraacetate (ammonium EDTA) as a chelating agent, present in an amount effective to enhance soil removal in said cleaner; and (d) the remainder, water.
Abstract:
A scrubbing device is formed comprising an absorbent body, preferably regenerated cellulose sponge, having affixed on one surface thereof a woven web comprising a woven backing and pile fibers interwoven into the backing. The pile fibers form the scouring surface which has improved nonscratching characteristics and good cleaning properties. The improved nonscratching characteristics are due to the lack of mineral abrasive or hardened resins which bind fibers of non-woven scrims.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for leak testing a closed container having a substantially flexible wall structure wherein a compressive force is applied to the wall structure such that the wall structure is displaced from a first position to a second position. The compressive force is maintained for a pre-determined first period of time to stabilize the container wall structure. After the stabilization period, the compressive force is released wherein the wall structure commences recovery from the second position toward the first position. The wall structure recovery from the second position is measured at a pre-determined second period of time.
Abstract:
A disinfectant and cleansing composition is provided in the form of an extruded solid. The active agent in the composition is a halogen-releasing agent such as a halogenated 5,5-dialkylhydantoin. An inert binder such as a fatty acid salt or a hectoritic clay is used to enable manufacture of the composition using an extrusion process. Fragrance, colorants, and other pressure-sensitive materials may be included; fragrance and colorants are preferably incorporated in encapsulated form. Methods for manufacturing the compositions are also provided, as are methods for using the compositions in sanitizing water, particularly in disinfecting and cleansing flush toilets.

The present invention provides an abrasive-free cleaning composition which includes, in aqueous solution, a bleach, a colloidal thickener, and a source of divalent ionic calcium. The composition further includes at least one surfactant which is effective to provide cleaning activity and, in association with the colloidal thickener, thickening. The composition also includes an electrolyte/buffer which is effective to promote an environment in which the thickener and the surfactant associate to provide proper thickening. The inventive cleaning composition, with its ionic calcium source, has desirable viscosity and rheological properties, and demonstrates significant viscosity stability, rheological stability, phase stability and bleach stability. The cleaning composition maintains these desirable properties under typical storage conditions as well as over extended times and at elevated temperatures. The present invention also provides a method of preparing an abrasive-free cleaning composition and a method of cleaning a substrate with an abrasive-free cleaning composition.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns a thickened viscoelastic cleaning formulation comprising, in aqueous solution: (a) an active cleaning compound; and (b) a viscoelastic thickening system comprising a tetradecyldialkylamine oxide and a hydrophobic organic counterion; wherein the formulation has a viscosity of at least 500 cP at 20.degree. C. The present invention is characterized as a means for reducing the characteristic "bleach odor" found in hypochlorite cleaning compositions of the prior art, particularly those which are volatilized upon dispensing. The compositions of the present invention may further be formulated to have utility as a hard surface cleaner, or as a drain opener.
