Abstract:
An installation for electron beam metalworking comprises an electron gun (1), a transformer and rectifier system producing a rectified high voltage supplied to the gun, a vacuum tube (23) disposed in the circuit and associated with means (21) sensitive to the current flowing through the circuit and adapted to interrupt the current when it exceeds a predetermined value. The circuit is characterized in that the positive terminal of the rectifier is connected to the gun anode (4) by way of earth (the reference potential) and the vacuum tube (23) associated with its current flow sensiive means (21) is disposed in the connection between the negative terminal of the rectifier (19) and the gun cathode (3).
Abstract:
A method of and apparatus for regulating an electron-beam welding generator of the kind having three electrodes viz: a cathode, a Wehnelt electrode and an anode. The method is characterized by a suitable combination of two methods of regulating an electron beam welding gun. One of these methods includes varying and regulating the very high voltage while maintaining the voltage applied to the Wehnelt electrode at the potential of the cathode (operation of the "diode" kind). The other method includes holding the very high voltage constant while regulating or programming the welding current by means of the voltage to the Wehnelt electrode (operation of the "triode" kind). The variations in and regulation of the very high voltage are controlled by an induction regulator associated with a thyristorized regulator.
Abstract:
An electron-beam apparatus for thermal treatment by electron bombardment, comprising a power supply, a vacuum chamber accommodating an object being treated, an electron gun including a cathode which is the source of an electron flow and an accelerating electrode which, together with the cathode, forms the electron flow into an electron beam directed to the object being treated, and a supplementary source of accelerating voltage, one leadout of which is connected to the cathode and the other leadout is coupled to the accelerating electrode, the cathode and the accelerating electrode being electrically insulated from each other and from the object being treated, and the power supply has one of its leadouts connected to the cathode and the other leadout connected to the object being treated. The electron-beam apparatus for thermal treatment by electron bombardment is primarily intended for melting metals, evaporating various materials, treating ingots by fritting, treating material to required dimensions, etc., and can be advantageously employed in aviation, metallurgical and ship-building industries.
Abstract:
A power supply is described for an electron gun employed in an electron beam furnace system wherein the gun current is susceptible of rising upon the occurrence of an arc. Switching means including at least one transistor are coupled between the current source and the electron gun. The current through the transistor is sensed and control means operate to disable the transistor upon a rise in the current due to an arc.
Abstract:
A high voltage power supply for providing highly stabilized voltages of several hundred kilovolts or more which can be applied between the filament assembly and the grounded anode of the gun for an electron microscope, for example, and made as an integral unit with the microscope structure. A plurality of stacked power deck units are mounted within an insulative tube which may also enclose the filament assembly and an accelerator tube if one is used. A coupling capacitor for feeding the output voltage to a regulator system is fashioned as an integral part of the overall structure and arranged so as to couple solely to the output voltage terminal in order to provide accurate corrections of rapid fluctuations of the output voltage. Provision is also made for the regulation of slower fluctuations, such as slow voltage drifts.
