Abstract:
1,2-Octanediol is used to clean soiled fabrics. Thus, cleaning compositions comprising 1,2-octanediol, preferably in combination with solvents, are impregnated into carrier sheets. The sheets are tumbled with soiled fabrics inside of a plastic bag. The resulting home dry cleaning process leaves the fabrics clean and refreshed.
Abstract:
An enzyme composition and a means of reducing the stickiness of honeydew contaminated cotton is disclosed. The composition includes, and the method uses, enzymes such as transglucosidases and pectinases which are capable of hydrolyzing sugars that make-up honeydew. Suitable transglucosidases include those obtained from Aspergillus niger. Particularly preferred is a transglucosidase obtained from Aspergillus niger ATCC 14916.
Abstract:
The invention provides a cleaning method in which a solvent such as densified carbon dioxide can be used for rapid and efficient cleaning, but with decreased damage to solid components such as buttons. The method comprises contacting a substrate to be cleaned with a first fluid, removing the first fluid from contact with the substrate while replacing with a second fluid, and recovering the substrate substantially free of the first and second fluids and from the contaminant. The first fluid is a densified gas while the second fluid is a compressed gas. A preferred embodiment of the method includes the use of a pretreatment designed for compatibility with the densified first fluid.
Abstract:
A container having at least one opening seal, which seal is mechanically strong in the dry state but disintegrates in water at temperature of 40.degree. C. or below under the influence of mechanical agitation. The seal is formed from a mixture of a water-labile adhesive and a heat-sealable component.
Abstract:
A liquid heavy duty laundry detergent composition comprising a suspension of builder salt in liquid nonionic surfactant in which the pourability and physical stability of the composition is improved by the addition of small amounts of an alkaline earth metal or zinc salt of higher fatty acid, especially magnesium, calcium and zinc distearate. The yield stress is reduced and the pourability of the composition is improved especially at low concentrations of the alkaline earth metal or zinc salt.
Abstract:
1,1,1-trichloroethane is recovered in an excellent yield from textile material without deterioration in quality of the textile material by a method in which a textile material is introduced into a hot water bath having a temperature of 64.degree. C. or more and a pH of 4.0 or more, so as to allow 1,1,1-trichloroethane to vaporize together with water, the mixture of vapors of 1,1,1-trichloroethane and water is condensed by cooling it, and then, the condensed 1,1,1-trichloroethane is separated from the condensed water.
Abstract:
A powdered carpet composition comprising a blend of an inorganic salt carrier, an agglomerating agent such as starch and fragrance, said composition being in proper form for ready application to the carpet and serving to provide deodorizing and/or freshening effects thereto.
Abstract:
A METHOD FOR REMOVING SPOTS AND OTHER SIMILAR DIRT AND STAINS FROM FABRICS AND OTHER MATERIALS AND A DIRT AND STAIN REMOVER WHEREBY A SOLVENT AND ADSORBENT SUCH AS A CHALKY POWDER ARE APPLIED INDEPENDENTLY INSTEAD OF IN COMBINATION TO INCREASE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CLEANER IN COMPARISON WITH PRODUCTS WHICH APPLY THE SOLVENT AND ADSORBENT IN COMBINATION. THE PREFERRED WAY OF CARRYING OUT THIS METHOD IS BY TWO SEPARATE AEROSOL, ROLL-ON OR OTHER SIMILAR CONTAINERS-ONE CONTAINING A DETERGENT SOLVENT AND THE OTHER AN ADSORBENT POWDER, PREFERABLY MIXED WITH ENZYME CRYSTALS. ONE PRODUCT FOR CARRYING OUT THIS SEPARATE APPLICATION IS A DISPOSABLE PAPER HAND MITT DESIGNED TO BE USED ONLY ONCE AND HAVING MICROCAPSULES CONTAINING A SOLVENT WHICH MAY BE COMBINED WITH LIQUID DETERGENT LODGED IN ONE SIDE THEREOF SO THAT WHEN THAT SIDE IS RUBBED ON A STAINED OR DIRTY FABRIC, THE MICROACAPSULES RUPTURE AND THE SOLVENT FLOWS INTO THE FABRIC OR OTHER MATERIAL AND MOBILIZES THE DIRT OR OTHER STAINS. AFTER THE MICROCAPSULES ARE APPLIED, THE MITT CAN BE SIMPLY REVERSED ON THE HAND, AND THE OTHER SIDE, WHICH PREFERABLY CONTAINS AN ADSORBENT MATERIAL, SUCH AS LOOSE PARTICLES OF CHALK MIXED WITH CRYSTALS OF CLEANING ENZYMES, APPLIED TO THE DIRT OR STAIN SO THAT THE SOLVENT, AS WELL AS THE DIRT OR STAIN MOBILIZED BY IT, ARE ATTRACTED TO THE ADSORBENT FOR EASY REMOVAL OR BOTH, AND AT THE SAME TIME THE ENZYMES ASSIST IN REMOVING THE SPOT.
Abstract:
AFTER MATERIAL LEAVES APPARATUS, SUCH AS A WASING MAAFTER MATERIAL LEAVES APPARATUS, SUCH AS A WASHING MACHINE OR MERCERISER, IN WHICH IT IS WET PROCESSED, THE LIQUID RETAINED BY THE MATERIAL IS REMOVED IN TWO STAGES, E.G., BY TWO SEPARATE PAIRS OF NIP ROLLERS. MOST OF THE LIQUID IS REMOVED IN THE FIRST STAGE. LIQUID REMOVED IN SECOND STAGE IS COLLECTED, AND ITS NATURE, E.G., ITS PH, EXAMINED TO GIVE AN INDICATION OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MATERIAL. SIGNAL DEPENDENT UPON INDICATION MAY BE USED TO ADJUST ACTION OF THE APPARATUS.
