A quaternary onium aromatic sulfonate represented by the formula: wherein each R1 independently comprises substituted or unsubstituted, aliphatic or aromatic, hydrocarbyl, carbocyclic or heterocyclic radicals, each X is selected from the group consisting of phosphorus and nitrogen; wherein “a” has a value of 0, 1 or 2, and “b” has a value of 0 or 1 with the proviso that (a+b) is equal to 1 or 2; G1 is an aromatic group; E comprises a bis(carbonyloxyalkyl) polydiorganosiloxane, a bis (carbonyloxyaryl) polydiorganosiloxane, and an ether linkage; each Y independently comprises hydrogen, a monovalent hydrocarbon group, alkenyl, allyl, halogen, bromine, chlorine; nitro; and OR, wherein R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group; “q” represents any integer from and including zero through the number of positions on G1 available for substitution; “t” represents an integer equal to at least one; “s” represents an integer equal to either zero or one; and “u” represents any integer including zero; with the proviso that when E is an ether linkage, then X is phosphorus.

A coating fluid for forming a coating on a support for use in inkjet printing comprises a liquid medium having dispersed therein (a) an inorganic oxide selected from aluminium oxide and silica, (b) a binder polymer, and (c) a polymeric crosslinking agent containing functional groups for reaction with the inorganic oxide. The components (a), (b) and (c) are preferably dispersed in an aqueous liquid and the relative amounts of inorganic oxide to polymeric crosslinking agent are from 500:1 to 15:1 preferably 250:1 to 20:1, the relative amounts of inorganic oxide to binder polymer are from 50:1 to 2:1 preferably 20:1 to 4:1 and the relative amounts of binder polymer to polymeric crosslinking agent are from 40:1 to 2:1 preferably from 20:1 to 3:1 the amounts being by weight on a dry basis.

Benzotriazole UV absorbers which are substituted at the 5-position of the benzo ring by an electron withdrawing group exhibit enhanced durability and very low loss rates when incorporated into automotive coatings. This is particularly the case when the 3-position of the phenyl ring is also substituted by phenyl or phenylalkyl such as .alpha.-cumyl. Compounds where the 5-position of the benzo ring are substituted by perfluoroalkyl such as trifluoromethyl are particularly of interest for both their enhanced durability and for their excellent solubility and excellent color properties in some thermoplastic compositions when the phenyl ring is substituted at the 3-position by hydrogen or tert-alkyl.

Matte grade coated ink jet paper comprises a cellulosic substrate coated with a coating composition comprising a calcined kaolin clay particulate pigment comprising porous aggregates with a total pore volume of 0.60 cm.sup.3 /g to 2.00 cm.sup.3 /g, a narrow particle size distribution where about 90 weight % has an E.S.D. less than 2 microns a mean pore size less than 0.8 microns in diameter, and a cationic polymer with an average molecular weight in the range of 1,000 to 5 million daltons which polymer acts as a dispersant in a precursor slurry and produces a net positive charge on the calcined clay pigment. This chemically treated clay pigment is used in a final coating formulation for the substrate to provide high printing ink density, printed and coating gloss, water fastness resistance, low wicking, and low bleeding on most ink jet papers. The calcined kaolin clay provides a high coating solids of about 30 to about 70 weight % solids, based on the weight of the slurry, and good viscosities and rheology, therefore, making the pigment suitable for most commercial high speed coaters.

Previously cross-linked silicone elastomer particles with an organic-polymer shell are used as constituents for formulating aqueous coating compositions based on water-soluble or water-dilutable binders. The silicone elastomer particles contain: (a) 5 to 95% by weight, with respect to the total weight of the copolymer, of a nuclear polymer of general formula (R.sub.2 SiO.sub.2/2).sub.x (RSiO.sub.3/2).sub.y (SiO.sub.4/2).sub.z, in which x=5 to 99.5% by mole, y=0.5 to 95% by mole, z=0 to 30% by mole, and (b) 5 to 95% by weight, with respect to the total weight of the copolymer of a shell made of an organopolymer from mono- or poly-ethylenically unsaturated monomers; and R stands for the same or different monovalent alkyl or alkenyl radicals with 1 to 6 carbon atoms, aryl radicals or substituted hydrocarbon radicals.

This invention is directed to a broad spectrum antimicrobial composition which comprises a mixture of 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one, or a salt thereof, (BIT) and 1,3-bis(hydroxymethyl)-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DMH), said mixture provided in an amount to protect a substrate from attack by one or more bacterial organisms. The composition can be used broadly in industrial systems and more particularly with substrates such as paints, coatings, stucco, concrete, stone, cementaceous surfaces, wood, caulking, sealants, textiles, leather, wood, preservatives, metal working fluids, drilling muds, clay slurries, glazes, optical brightness, carpet backing, pigments and as a preservative for other aqueous and wet state products, and the like.

The present invention discloses solventless composition suitable for application as a hot melt to a substrate, said composition comprising a mixture or alloy of resins, selected such that the averaged glass transition temperature (Tg) of the combined unreacted resins is greater than -30.degree. and less than +60.degree. C. The melt viscosity of the unreacted resins are selected so that the combined resin mix has a melt viscosity of from about 0.05 to 25 Poise when measured at 180.degree. C. and at a shear rate of 10,000 Hz.

Disclosed herein is an anti-fogging coating film comprising a hydrophilic polymer and a benzophenone compound represented by a general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1 to X.sub.10 are the same or different from one another and are individually a radical selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxyl group, sulfonic group, carboxyl group, acyl group, ester group, ether group, hydrocarbon groups, alkoxyl groups having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, amino group, hydroxyalkyl groups and hydroxyalkoxyl groups, with the proviso that at least one of X.sub.1 to X.sub.10 is a radical selected from among the hydroxyl and sulfonic groups. Anti-fogging articles comprising a base material such as glass, plastic, metal or mirror and the anti-fogging coating film provided thereon, and a composition for forming the anti-fogging coating film are also disclosed.
