Abstract:
A method of embossing a sheet of non-woven fibrous web, and the resulting fibrous sheet structure, e.g. toilet tissue, with a series of identical boss elements arranged in a uniform pattern in a manner to avoid nesting of the embossments and resulting non-uniform product rolls when the sheet is rolled onto a mandrel. The embossments are uniformly spaced in rows which in the longitudinal direction form an angle in the range of 15.degree. to 23.degree. relative to the edge of the sheet or roll and an angle in the range of 40.degree. to 57.degree. relative to the cross direction of the sheet or roll.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for embossing foil to produce warp-free, textured packaging sheet. The method comprises the forming of bosses in the foil while firmly supporting the foil clamped on rigid lands at the perimeter of the boss to be formed. Drawing the foil between rigid male and female walls of a forming cavity while so held, and interposing a sheet of yieldable material between the surface of the female portion of the cavity and the sheet of foil to produce a yieldable matrix against which the foil comes to rest.
Abstract:
A SOFT, ABSORBENT CREPED FIBROUS WEB FORMED BY DEPOSITION FROM AN QUAQUEOUS SLURRY AND CONSISTING OF LIGNOCELLULOSIC FIBERS AND ABOUT 3% TO ABOUT 25% ELASTOMERIC BONDING MATERIAL. THE LIGNOCELLULOSIC FIBERS INTERBOUND WITH EACH OTHER TO FORM THE STIFF BONDS ASSOCIATED WITH PAPERMAKING, AND THE ELASTOMERIC BONDING MATERIAL IS UNIFORMLY DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE WEB (BY ADDITION TO THE SLURRY OF THE BEATER) AND FORMS FLEXIBLE BONDS WHERE IT CONTACTS THE FIBERS. THE WEB HAS BEEN MECHANICALLY WORKED TO PARTIALLY FRACTURE STIFF BONDS IN SELECTED LOCATIONS TO INCREASE THE STRETCH, FLEXIBILITY, AND SOFTNESS OF THE WEB WHILE RETAINING SUFFICIENT STIFF BONDS IN DESIRED LOCATIONS TO MAINTAIN STRENGTH. IN THE PREFERRED PRODUCT OF THE INVENTION, THE MECHANICAL WORKING WHICH PARTIALLY FRACTURE THE CREPED WEB IS CARRIED OUT BY EMBOSSING TO PRODUCE A DISTORTED WEB CONTOUR OF RAISED AREAS AND DEPRESSIONS WHICH INCREASES WEB BULK AND TO CREATE APERTURES UNIFORMLY DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE WEB. THE APERTURES ARE ELONGATED IN THE MACHINE DIRECTION OF THE WEB AND GREATLY INCREASE CROSS-MACHINE DIRECTION STRETCH OF THE WEB. THE EMBOSSING OPERATION ALLOWS RETENTION OF STIFF BONDS IN SELECTED CRITICAL LOCATIONS WHERE THEY MAINTAIN THE WEB DISTORTIONS AND PRESERVE BULK.
Abstract:
Embossed multi-ply fibrous structures that exhibit a Geometric Mean Elongation of greater than 15.8% as measured according to the Elongation Test Method are provided.
Abstract:
A multi-layered product having an embossed interior layer is disclosed along with a method of making the product. The multi-layered product has a first layer with an interior surface, a second layer with an interior surface, and a third layer sandwiched between the first and second layers. The third layer has a first surface and a second surface and has a thickness therebetween. The third layer is embossed into a waffle pattern having a plurality of protrusions and a plurality of recesses. Each of the plurality of protrusions and recesses is adjacently aligned and horizontally offset from one another. The plurality of protrusions forms a horizontal plane, at the first surface, which is positioned above a horizontal plane formed by the plurality of recesses, at the first surface. The product also has an adhesive which secures the three layers together.
Abstract:
Fibrous structures that exhibit a Geometric Mean Elongation of greater than 12.5% as measured according to the Elongation Test Method are provided.
Abstract:
A hybrid multi-ply tissue paper product comprising at least three plies made of tissue paper base-sheet is described. At least one ply is a structured ply produced by a structuring manufacturing method. The structured ply includes a structured back face. At least another ply is a wet pressed ply produced by a wet press manufacturing method. The structured ply is positioned and orientated with respect to the at least two other plies such that the structured back face of the structured ply is facing the at least two other plies so as to dampen a two-sidedness effect related to the structured back face.

Abstract:
A method for producing a roller used for manufacturing a retarder film is provided. The method includes providing the roller having a roller surface; providing an embossing tool having an embossing end and embossing the roller surface with the embossing tool. The embossing end has a plurality of first microgroove structures and second microgroove structures. The first and second micro-groove structures are both parallel structures. Each one of the first microgroove structures is symmetric to each one of the second microgroove structures with respect to a symmetry line. An included angle of the symmetry line between each first micro-groove structure and that between each second micro-groove structure are 45±8 degrees.
