A printing device comprises a communication unit which executes communication with a mail server on a network, a connection unit to which a portable storage medium storing setting information can be connected, a printing unit which executes printing, and a control unit which executes a mail printing process of acquiring a specified e-mail from the mail server via the communication unit by use of the setting information stored in the portable storage medium connected to the connection unit and executing printing based on the acquired e-mail with the printing unit.

A document management system includes an image input unit for reading a paper document, an image output unit for printing document image information, and a task management system for managing a task. The task managed by the task management system is identified for a document image input operation, and an input condition that is set in advance for the identified task is acquired. The image input unit reads the paper document in accordance with the acquired input condition. Document image information that is inputted by the image input unit is registered in association with the task managed by the task management system. For a document image output operation, an output condition that is set in advance for the identified task is acquired. The image output unit prints the document image information in accordance with the acquired output condition.

Identification information of another image communication apparatus is received, as transmitter information indicating a transmitter, from the another image communication apparatus, and display is performed so as to indicate the transmitter on display means in accordance with the transmitter information having been received, and a user is allowed to select whether or not an image is to be received from the another image communication apparatus having transmitted the transmitter information. Next, its own identification information is transmitted, as destination information indicating a destination, to the another image communication apparatus which is selected as the transmitter from which an image is to be received. An image is received from the another image communication apparatus to which the destination information is transmitted, and the received image is stored in storage means.
Abstract:
A facsimile machine receives image data, generates a password for received image data, assigns the generated password to the received image data, and stores the received image data. Information indicating a notification destination is extracted from the received image data, and the notification destination is notified of the password. The received image data are output responsive to subsequent input of the password at the facsimile machine. This scheme provides password protection without forcing users to register and remember passwords, and without the risk that a compromised password may be used for unauthorized output of facsimile data received later.

To provide a technique for allowing a user to acquire information peculiar to the user stored in a storage area, for which log-in processing and authentication processing are necessary, through simple authentication processing using a card without performing operation for inputting a user ID and a password. An image processing apparatus includes: a card-ID-information acquiring unit that acquires card ID information of a user; a user-ID-information acquiring unit that outputs the card ID information acquired by the card-ID-information acquiring unit and acquires, according to the outputted card ID information, user ID information associated with the card ID information; and a setting-information acquiring unit that acquires, on the basis of the acquired user ID information, environment setting information concerning a work environment of the user corresponding to the user ID information, the setting-information acquiring unit acquiring the environment setting information on the basis of environment setting administrator authority for allowing the user to acquire a work environment associated with the user ID information of users who can be targets of acquisition of the work environment.

A method for sending image data of a document containing human readable textual destination information to a designated remote destination is herein described. The method includes receiving image data and recognizing, with a processor, the textual destination information designating a remote destination in the image data. The textual destination information may include a predetermined pattern identifying an e-mail address, IP address, or telephone number, or a region to locate such. When the textual destination information is recognized, an electronic routing address is created such that a transmission module coupled to the processor may transmit the data to the remote destination. A method and system including identifying the location of textual destination information in a first scanned document to automatically identify information in a corresponding location in a second scanned document to address and transmit the second document is also disclosed.

An electronic camera for capturing images that can be transferred to a service provider includes an image sensor for capturing a plurality of images of scenes and for producing image signals representative of the corresponding scenes; an analog-to-digital converter for digitizing the image signals to produce corresponding digital images; and a memory for storing a plurality of digital images. The electronic camera further includes a display coupled to the memory for displaying at least one digital image from the plurality of stored digital images; and a user interface for scrolling through the plurality of digital images stored in the memory in order to display and select a particular digital image to be transferred to the service provider and to select a user, wherein the selected user is provided permission to view the particular digital image when the particular digital image is transferred to the service provider.

If the reliability is low, the first log information is held in the property storage unit 114 and the image data is held in a volume storage unit.
