Abstract: The device includes a shaft having a plurality of interengaging shaft members. A tension member extends through the shaft and is positional between two positions. When the tension member is in the first position thereof, the shaft members are capable of movement relative to one another allowing the shaft to be manipulable between a continuous range of positions. When the tension member is biased to the second position thereof, the shaft members are non-movably held together forming a rigid shaft of desired shape. An articulation member extends through the shaft and is connected to a live attachment which is retained on a distal end of the shaft. By manipulation of the articulation member at a proximal end of the shaft the live attachment is manipulated.

Abstract: A remotely controllable actuator system comprised of one or more modules having a first plurality of wedge links connected together by torque transmission means, a second plurality of wedge links which are connected together by torque transmission means positioned between the links of the first plurality of wedge links and in sliding contact therewith and third torque transmitting means extending from one end of the module to the other. Each post is coupled to the elongate bar at positions providing substantially uniform lateral distances between the first strut and one of the posts closest to the first strut, between the second strut and one of the posts closest to the second strut, and between any adjacent pair of the posts to form a plurality of side-by-side disc capture bays.

Abstract: A system and method of providing feedback during manual joint positioning includes a computer-assisted device having an articulated structure including a joint and a control unit coupled to the articulated structure. To provide feedback to a user during manual positioning of the joint by the user, the control unit is configured to provide first haptic feedback indicating that the joint is moving in a correct direction when the joint is moving toward a first target position, provide second haptic feedback indicating that the joint is not moving in the correct direction when the joint is moving away from the first target position, and provide third haptic feedback indicating that motion of the joint should stop when the joint is at the first target position.
