摘要: An optical fiber array includes an alignment substrate, a plurality of ferrules, and a plurality of optical fibers. The alignment substrate has a plurality of guide holes which are two-dimensionally arrayed and extend through the substrate. The ferrules are respectively inserted into the guide holes in the same direction and have through holes in the central portions. The optical fibers are fitted and held in the respective through holes. The guide hole is formed into a cylindrical shape having a diameter substantially equal to the outer diameter of the ferrule. The light incident/exit end face of the optical fiber is exposed on one end face of the ferrule.

摘要: Disclosed is a method for measuring light in a living body and capable of discriminating the size in activation brain areas. Two diamond-shaped probes alternately installed spatially for a light source or a light detector, and a second light source or light detector are installed between a first light source or light detector and an image is reconstructed utilizing all the sampling points, and whether or not the largest position on the reconstructed image is in proximity to the first or the second sampling point is determined, and an image is reconstructed from those results using only the position information from the first or the second sampling point. The difference in the sizes of the activation brain area can be displayed as an image, and an increased amount of information can be acquired from results measuring the metabolic substance concentration within a living body.

摘要: A method is provided which permits a reproduction time to verify a measurement image in a living body light measurement to be shortened, an effective performance check to be made, and periods containing noise and periods where tasks are not performed correctly to be eliminated in a short time. A moving image of a subject is photographed in a first trial period (rest period when the subject is at rest and task period when a task is given to the subject) and a second trial period (rest period when the subject is at rest and task period when a task is given to the subject), and a moving image in the first trial period and a moving image in the second trial period are displayed effectively simultaneously. The performance check in each trial period can be performed efficiently, and the moving image reproduction time can be shortened. Further, periods containing noise and periods where tasks are not performed correctly can be eliminated in a shorter time than in the prior art.

摘要: Disclosed is a photonic switch that includes a plurality of optical-path switching means having movable light reflecting portions that guide light from each of a plurality of input ports to any output port among a plurality of output ports. Each of the optical-path switching means is made to produce a specific loss so as to reduce path-to-path variations in loss along the paths from the input to the output ports. Specifically, loss along a path is the total of loss based upon optical path length and loss produced by the optical-path switching means. A specific loss is produced by each of the optical-path switching means in such a manner that total loss is equalized from path to path.

摘要: The present invention aims at providing an information recording and reproducing device which cannot only maintain interchangeability with the reproducing dedicated type media but also realize enhancement of reliability of media based on spare processing as appropriate. A spare area is selectively secured in accordance with whether or not an instruction indicating that a spare area is secured is detected. The instruction indicating that a spare area is secured, for example, is issued by utilizing a method in which a user directly selects whether or not data is recorded in a high reliability mode to set the selection results, or the like. When first recording processing is started, firstly, after an area for recording of a data block for first lead-in is secured in an unrecorded area, first user data is recorded from a position next thereto. When a reproducing defect is detected in verifying reproducing of recording data, a first spare area is secured in an outer periphery of a write once type disc and a spare processing object data block is recorded therein.

摘要: The present invention is directed to an optical space switch accommodating a plurality of input light paths and output light paths. The optical space switch comprises a plurality of polarization control optical switches, each consisting essentially of: polarization control means having elements, one for each input light path, for rotating through 90° the polarizing direction of light information incident from each input light path or otherwise retaining the polarizing direction thereof for output; and a light path routing element for routing the light path for the light information output from the polarization control means in accordance with the polarizing direction of the light information. These polarization control optical switches are arranged in a matrix pattern or coupled in cascade to implement a polarization control optical space switch.
