Abstract:
Compounds having the structure of Formula I, including pharmaceutically acceptable salts of the compounds, are CETP inhibitors, and are useful for raising HDL-cholesterol, reducing LDL-cholesterol, and for treating or preventing atherosclerosis. The compounds have 3 cyclic groups connected by single bonds, as for example triphenyl, which are attached directly to the ring of formula I or attached at the position B.
Abstract:
Machine-readable media, methods, apparatus and system for a community-based trust are provided. In an embodiment, it may be determined whether a requesting node obtains a trust from a targeting node through an endorsement from an intermediate node. If the requesting node obtains the trust through the endorsement from the intermediate node, an intermediate trust level that indicates how much the targeting node trusts the intermediate node may be obtained; and a new trust level that indicates how much the targeting node trusts the requesting node may be calculated based upon the intermediate trust level.
Abstract:
Methods for inhibiting angiogenesis comprising administering tissue-plasminogen activator (tPA) inhibitors, and pharmaceutical compositions suitable for the methods comprising the tPA inhibitors. Also provided are methods for stimulating angiogenesis comprising administering tPA to a patient in need thereof, and pharmaceutical compositions comprising an effective amount of tPA for the methods of stimulation. The present invention discloses that tPA is a specific PDGF-C activating protease, and that the CUB-domains in PDGF-CC directly interact with the protease, are required for efficient proteolysis, and released CUB-domains are tPA inhibitors. Preferably, the method and compositions of the present invention are used for simultaneously stimulating, or simultaneously inhibiting, thrombolysis and angiogenesis.
Abstract:
Glass compositions are provided that are useful in electronic applications, e.g., as reinforcements in printed circuit board substrates. Reduced dielectric constants are provided relative to E-glass, and fiber forming properties are provided that are more commercially practical than D-glass.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to materials comprising organic-inorganic polymeric networks. In some embodiments, the present invention provides an organic-inorganic composite material comprising an inorganic metal oxide matrix interpenetrating with a polymeric phase. Additionally, the present invention provides methods of producing organic-inorganic composite materials.
Abstract:
A method and system of processing a document, includes analyzing a characteristic of a first pixel in a document and at least one second pixel positioned near the first pixel, classifying a value of the first pixel in accordance with the analysis, and modifying the value of the first pixel based upon the classification.
Abstract:
The invention relates to real-time handling of data in more in particular, estimation of time needed to retrieve frames for video rendering, taking fragmentation of frames into account. Especially for data retrieval for trick-play, this is non-trivial, as it is not known on beforehand whether the frames to be retrieved are fragmented. Retrieval of non contiguously fragmented frames takes at least twice as much time as retrieval of a non-fragmented frame. The invention provides various advantageous embodiments, taking into account that when allocation units are substantially larger than the size of frames to be retrieved. An embodiment of the invention provides a method for accurate retrieval time estimation when trick play speed, allocation unit size, frame size and logical data distance between frames to retrieve is known.
Abstract:
The present invention provides synthetic vaccine delivery compositions based on polyester amide (PEA), polyester urethane (PEUR), and polyester urea (PEU) polymers for stimulating an immune response to a variety of pathogenic organisms and tumor cells in humans and other mammals. The vaccine delivery compositions are formulated as a liquid dispersion of polymer particles or molecules including class I or class II antigen peptides derived from organism or tumor cell proteins, which are taken up by antigen presenting cells of the mammal to induce an immune response in the mammal. Methods of inducing an immune response to the pathogenic organism or tumor cells in the invention compositions are also included.
Abstract:
Spam and other unwanted electronic-mail may be controlled by a system in which a given external message transfer agent using a given Internet protocol address and a given domain name is limited in the number of connections that it may make and the number of messages it may deliver over a given time period. Based on the performance of that external message transfer agent, the passage of time and the number of connections, its assigned connection limit may be increased so that progressively trust is increased and more message connections and a higher number of messages delivered may be permitted.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and media to calibrate a reprographic system are disclosed. Embodiments of the invention may calibrate a component like scanner and/or printer in response to user input and/or coupling the component to the reprographic system. More specifically, embodiments may generate a curve that describes tone differences between an image scanned by a scanner or an image printed by the printer by comparing the outputs to acceptable tone descriptions for the image. Some embodiments comprise a graphical user interface (GUI) to communicate with the user, allowing the user to select user preference curves to change, for example, the brightness of an image being copied. Some embodiments incorporate network and phone system interfaces to communicate with remote components as well as to receive input from and/or output to other systems via email, facsimile, etc.
