Abstract:
A respiratory gas analyzer is provided which measures and then instantly displays the volume of expired air from a subject. The instrument includes a positive displacement flow meter which is enclosed in an oven environment and which is used to measure all air expired from the subject, and this volume, computed at body temperature and ambient pressure, saturated with water vapor (BTPS) is digitally displayed at the end of each minute.
Abstract:
An improved scoring system is provided for use in conjunction with land or water ordnance ranges for training military personnel. The system to be described utilizes two pairs of pressure transducers positioned at right angles to one another around the perimeter of the target area. The differential time of arrival of seismic pressure waves at the transducers is sensed and data is made available at a remote read-out station. The resulting data may be presented on two electrical displays connected to corresponding electronic counters. The resulting data may be plotted on a plotting board, for example, to provide polar coordinates representative of range and bearing from an aiming point. Alternately, the polar coordinates may be derived by means of an appropriate electronic digital computer.
Abstract:
An improved apparatus and process is provided for processing the explosive known as Hexanitrostilbene (HNS) from a form known as HNS-I into a form known as HNS-II, to provide a refined product with a unique crystal form so as to facilitate handling of the material. The process of the invention involves an improved extraction technique involving the use of a solution of acetonitrile in which HNS-I is soluble and xylene in which HNS is insoluble for refining the HNS-I into an improved type of HNSII.
Abstract:
A rotary dampener includes a cylinder with a piston threaded in the cylinder such that relative rotary motion between the cylinder and piston causes axial movement of the piston in the cylinder. Hydraulic fluid in the cylinder is forced through a bypass passage in the cylinder from one side of the piston to the other in response to the axial movement of the piston. By restricting the passage, a proper degree of dampening of relative rotary motion between the piston and cylinder and thus between first and second members secured to these components can be realized.
Abstract:
A transmission system using a possibly existing wiring system for transmitting RF signals and covering short distances away from the wiring system through VHF transmission. In hospitals, physiological data are transmitted from a sensor VHF transmitter to a fixed VHF receiver RF transmitter coupled to the wiring system in the building. A RF receiver demodulator monitor is coupled to wiring system at the nurses'' station. The system is particularly designed for noise suppression.
