Abstract:
A valve positioning system for controlling a valve and exchanging information related to the valve is provided. The valve positioning system includes a valve positioner in operative association with the valve such that the valve positioner receives status information related to the valve. The valve positioner includes a graphical display that displays a graphical representation based on the status information. By displaying the graphical representation, the valve positioner optically transmits the status information to a computing device that is in a line of sight with the graphical display of the valve positioner.
Abstract:
A valve positioner that can maintain operation of the control valve despite failures in one or more components. The valve positioner may reduce downtime by allowing in-situ repair to occur on the valve positioner. The valve positioner may incorporate a by-pass component, which can utilize control input signals (e.g., a 4-20 mA signal) to energize one or more components (e.g., a current-to-pressure converter) to cause the control valve to modulate fluid flow without the digital microprocessor and/or related components.
Abstract:
Embodiments of a valve device that reduces noise and vibration that may occur during low flow conditions in fluid couplings (e.g., valves and flow regulators). These embodiments utilize a plug and seat arrangement with geometry to prevent pressure differentials that cause the plug element to open and close in a cyclic pattern. In one embodiment, the valve device includes a seat element with an aperture and a plug element with a boss that extends into the aperture when the plug element contacts the seat element. The boss has an outer surface that forms a gap, which defines an annular area proximate the point of contact between the seat element and the plug element that is sized to reduce Venturi flow effects that cause the cyclic pattern to occur.
Abstract:
A method that configures a liquid-level transmitter device to generate a measured value for a level of a liquid. The method includes steps to correct for changes in physical properties of one or more components of the device. In one embodiment, the method utilizes a correction value that incorporates data from a temperature sensor disposed inside of the device, for example, inside of the electronics member.
Abstract:
The present invention is an apparatus and method for replacing used electrode tips of a TIG welder. The apparatus has a main housing structure with a socket adapter assembly that is operatively supported by the main housing structure. The socket adapter assembly is used to both remove and re-attach the gas shield and the electrode nut of the TIG welder. A vacuum tip suction device that is operatively supported by the main housing structure is used to both remove and install electrode tips for the TIG welder.
Abstract:
A system and a method to display diagnostic and operating data on a trend graph via a web browser so that the data appears to trend in real-time. In one embodiment, the system includes a server with an architecture having multiple layers. The layers include a pair of first in, first out (FIFO) data queues including a first data queue and a second data queue. The embodiments utilize a timing structure with a plurality of timers including a first timer to regulate calls from the first data queue to a data source (e.g., a valve assembly or controller on a distributed control system), a second timer to regulate calls from the second data queue to the first data queue, and a third timer to regulate calls from the web browser to the second data queue for data to display on trend graph.
Abstract:
A system that provides localized monitoring of characteristics of instrument gas that a valve assembly uses to modulate the flow of a working fluid. The system includes components that generate an output in response to, for example, particulates, humidity, temperature, and other characteristics of the instrument gas. Processing of data and information in the output can help to diagnose changes in the characteristics of the instrument gas. This diagnosis is useful to predict a time frame during which the valve assembly and components associated therewith might fail and/or require maintenance before the valve assembly manifests significant problem that are detrimental to a process line.
Abstract:
Embodiments of a system and method to update firmware across multiple devices in a process facility using a single domain of a FOUNDATION Fieldbus protocol. In one embodiment, the system has a receiving device that couples with a pair of target devices, e.g., a first target device and a second target device. The receiving device includes operating instructions that can process an input and generate an output. The input comprises data comprising a first firmware component and a second firmware component for, respectively, the first target device and the second target device. The receiving device can direct the firmware component to the appropriate target device; generating a first output and a second output that distribute the firmware components to complete the upgrade process.
Abstract:
This disclosure describes improvements that can expand the operating envelope of a compressor device. These improvements implement devices that vary flow parameters of a working fluid at the exit of the compressor device. In one embodiment, the device utilizes a nozzle that installs into the discharge opening on a volute of a centrifugal compressor. Actuation of the nozzle modifies a flow area through which the working fluid exits the centrifugal compressor. The change in the flow area increases the velocity of the working fluid, without the need to change the operating speed and/or other operating parameters of the centrifugal compressor.
