An audio compression method using wavelet packet transform (WPT) in MPEG1 layer 3 (hereinafter referred to as “MP3”) and a system thereof are provided. The method comprises calculating perceptual energy by analyzing audio samples which are input based on a psychoacoustic model; according to comparison of the level of the calculated perceptual energy with a threshold, selectively determining a modified DCT (MDCT) processing window and a wavelet packet transform (WPT) processing window; by processing audio samples corresponding to the scopes of the determined windows in the MDCT and WPT, converting the audio samples into data on frequency domains; and quantizing the processed data on the frequency domains according to the number of assigned bits.
Abstract:
Deblocking filter used in a video encoder/decoder based on a multilayer. In deciding a deblocking filter strength when performing a deblocking filtering with respect to a boundary between a current block coded by an intra-BL mode and its neighboring block, it is determined whether the current block or the neighboring block has coefficients. The filter strength is decided as a first filter strength if it is determined that the current block or the neighboring block has the coefficients, and the filter strength is decided as a second filter strength if it is determined that the current block or the neighboring block does not have the coefficients. The first filter strength is greater than the second filter strength.
Abstract:
A video coding method using a multi-layer structure, and more particularly, a method and apparatus for facilitating a search for an intra-prediction mode in an upper layer using an intra-prediction mode in a lower layer while efficiently and compressively encoding the searched intra-prediction mode are provided. The intra-prediction method includes searching for an optimum prediction mode of a current block among a predetermined number of intra-prediction modes, and obtaining a directional difference between the searched optimum prediction mode and an optimum prediction mode of a lower layer block corresponding to the current block.

The method of efficiently compressing frames at higher layers by use of a base-layer in a multilayer-based video coding method includes (a) generating a base-layer frame from an input original video sequence, having the same temporal position as a first higher layer frame, (b) upsampling the base-layer frame to have the resolution of a higher layer frame, and (c) removing redundancy of the first higher layer frame on a block basis by referencing a second higher layer frame having a different temporal position from the first higher layer frame and the upsampled base-layer frame.
Abstract:
An adaptive interframe wavelet video coding method, a computer readable recording medium and system therefor are provided. The interframe wavelet video coding method includes (a) receiving a group-of-frames including a plurality of frames and determining a mode flag according to a predetermined procedure using motion vectors of boundary pixels, (b) temporally decomposing the frames included in the group-of-frames in predetermined directions in accordance with the determined mode flag, and (c) performing spatial transform and quantization on the frames obtained by performing step (b), thereby generating a bitstream. Since an appropriate temporal filtering is performed in accordance with a boundary condition, efficiency of interframe wavelet video coding is increased.
