Abstract: A system for gasifying a carbonaceous feedstock, such as municipal waste, to generate power includes a devolitization reactor that creates char from the feedstock and a gasifier that creates a product gas from both the char and from volatiles released when devolitizing the feedstock. The product gas is reacted in a fuel cell to create electrical energy and process heat. The process heat is used to heat the devolitization reactor and the gasifier. The gasifier comprises a plurality of configurable circuits that can each be tuned to meet the individual needs of the char material being gasified.

Abstract: A gripper for use with a robot includes a support body for removably attaching the gripper to a moveable arm and a workpiece contact body having a groove extending along at least a portion of the contact body for engaging a curved outer edge of the workpiece. A coupling member connects the support body to the workpiece contact member and includes a flexure component that flexes to allow radial and/or tangential relative movement of the workpiece contact body with respect to the support body to diminish slippage between the workpiece and the contact body as the gripper engages the workpiece.

Abstract: Ion implant apparatus using a drum-type scan wheel holds wafers with a total cone angle less than 60°. A collimated scanned beam of ions, for example H+, is directed along a final beam path which is at an angle of at least 45° to the axis of rotation of the scan wheel. Ions are extracted from a source and accelerated along a linear acceleration path to a high implant energy (more than 500 keV) before scanning or mass analysis. The mass analyzer may be located near the axis of rotation and unwanted ions are directed to an annular beam dump which may be mounted on the scan wheel.
