Disclosed is a shadow-mask type color cathode-ray tube comprising a faceplate having a curved inner surface which prevents degrouping and a substantially flat outer surface. In this color cathode-ray tube, the resolution is not deteriorated in the peripheral portion and an inespensive flat material is usable as a glass plate provided with a reflection reducing coating or a touch panel attached to the outer surface of the faceplate. Since a shadow mask supported with a tension applied thereto is usable, the positional deviation of the apertures due to the expansion of the shadow mask during operation is prevented.

An impregnated cathode which has a portion where no electron emissive material is present on the surface layer of the cathode base body that is to be welded, in order that the cathode base body impregnated with the electron emissive material, a cup and a cathode sleeve can be firmly welded together. The cathode base body which has no electron emissive material on the surface layer is obtained by washing the cathode base body in a solvent which is capable of dissolving the electron emissive material. Using this cathode base body, the impregnated cathode is fabricated.

A solar battery has a pair of opposed light incident transparent electroconductive and back electrodes sandwiching amorphous silicon layers formed on a substrate with at least a major surface of the back electrode surface being in contact with an organic resin layer and being made of a compound of a transition metal and silicon, a compound of a transition metal and nitrogen, or a compound of a transition metal and carbon. Excellent corrosion resistance of the back electrode is obtained and the battery has high performance and high reliability.

A base metal plate material for a directly heated oxide cathode comprising nickel as a main component, 2.0 to 5.5 atomic percentage of rhenium, 7 atomic percentage or less of molybdenum, and at least one reducing agent can be used for producing quick operating type directly heated oxide cathodes showing no peeling of the oxide layer from the base metal plate and having excellently improved mechanical strength at high temperatures and specific electric resistance.
