Abstract:
A method of controlling the activity of a biologically active compound. The method concerns an oligonucleotide-based compound, comprising a hairpin-forming oligonucleotide, an effector moiety physically associated with the oligonucleotide, where the effector moiety possesses a biological activity, and a regulating moiety physically associated with the oligonucleotide, where the regulating moiety controls the biological activity of the effector moiety by interacting with the effector moiety. The oligonucleotide can assume a hairpin configuration, where the effector and regulating moieties interact, or an open configuration, where the effector and regulating moieties fail to interact. Depending on the nature of the effector and regulating moieties, either configuration can result in the expression of the biological activity of the effector moiety.
Abstract:
A disk device with disk contamination control having a spindle for rotating at least one disk. A spindle hub located on the spindle. A disk clamp for clamping the at least one disk on the hub. A magnetic clamp seal magnetically and removably attached to the disk clamp wherein the magnetic clamp seal encapsulates disk contaminants between the clamp and the clamp seal. The magnetic clamp seal magnetically collects metallic contaminants within a sealed housing.
Abstract:
Various arrangements for creating and using generic universal resource indicators are presented. To create a generic universal resource indicator, one or more parameters of a universal resource indicator may be identified. An interface that permits a parameter of the one or more parameters to be selected and mapped to a variable may be presented. A selection of the parameter for mapping may be received. An indication of the variable to map to the parameter of the selection may also be received. The generic universal resource indicator having a generic parameter corresponding to the parameter of the selection may be created.
Abstract:
A method of adaptive resource allocation in transmitting data is provided. In particular, the method of the present invention is applicable to scheduling bandwidths using a modified and dynamic weighted round robin process. The method includes the steps of allocating a resource to each of a plurality of data transmitting active connections, the plurality of active connections belonging to more than one class of service. Then the method determines a lender class of service for each active connection from which resources may be reallocated to the active connection, and periodically comparing the resource usage of an active connection to an upper threshold and a lower threshold. Borrowing action for resources from the lender class of service for the active connection is carried out in response to the current usage exceeding the upper threshold, and returning action for borrowed resources to the lender class of service from the active connection in response to the current usage being less than the lower threshold is carried out.
Abstract:
An antibody, which specifically recognizes adducts between pyrrole and cellular macromolecules. Such adducts are likely to occur in mammals suffering an incident of pyrrolizidine alkaloid poisoning. The antibody can be produced using a synthetic immunogen conjugated with a pyrrole as a hapten and it can be used, for example in an assay kit and/or by itself, as a novel means for detecting or diagnosing pyrrolizidine alkaloid poisoning both clinics and research laboratories.
Abstract:
Described is a website scanning apparatus comprising a policy analysis device for determining whether a link in a target website belongs to a known web application used by the target website. If the link belongs to the identified web application, then a vulnerability scanning is not performed on the link; a crawler device for obtaining the link content that the link points to; a web application identification device for determining whether the link belongs to a known web application; a full scan device for performing a full vulnerability scanning on a link determined as not belonging to the known web application; and a known web application vulnerability detection device for performing vulnerability detection for the identified web application according to known vulnerabilities to determine whether the known vulnerabilities exist in the website. A website scanning method employed by the website scanning apparatus is also described.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to methods of modulating bile acid and lipid transport via the organic solute and steroid transporter Ostα-Ostβ. The present invention is further directed to methods of treating a patient having dyslipidemia or a condition associated with altered bile acid homeostasis. Therapeutic agents and pharmaceutical compositions that modulate Ostα-Ostβ heteromeric complex formation and/or transport activity are also disclosed.
