Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention pertain to a material including a carrier and a co-biocide including copper ions and a biocide such as ZnPT, Tralopyril or a combination thereof. The material may include a copper-containing glass particles or cuprous oxide particles. In some embodiments, the copper-containing glass may include glass phase and a cuprite phase. In other embodiments, the copper-containing glass may include as plurality of Cu1+ ions, a degradable phase including B2O3, P2O5 and K2O and a durable phase including SiO2. In some embodiments, the carrier is a paint.

Abstract: Aspects of this disclosure pertain to a colorless material that includes a carrier, copper-containing particles, and quaternary ammonium. In one or more embodiments, the material exhibits, in the CIE L*a*b* system, an L* value in the range from about 91 to about 100, and a C* value of less than about 7, wherein C* equals √(a*2+b*2). In some embodiments, the material exhibits a greater than 3 log reduction in a concentration of Staphylococcus aureus, under the EPA Test Method for Efficacy of Copper Alloy as a Sanitizer testing conditions.

Abstract: Lighting units and light fixtures incorporating lighting units having light-diffusing optical fiber are disclosed. Lighting units include a light source, at least one light-diffusing optical fiber optically coupled to the light source, and a support plate. The at least one light-diffusing optical fiber scatters light that is optically coupled into the at least one light-diffusing optical fiber from the light source. The support plate has a retention groove to which a portion of the at least one light-diffusing optical fiber is coupled. The support plate also includes a perimeter. A groove length of the retention groove is greater than the perimeter of the support plate.

Abstract: Cell culture compositions containing LFM-A13 or a structurally related compound can enhance global hepatic function. For example, LFM-A13 is shown to enhance levels of a broad variety of drug metabolism enzymes, including CYP enzymes, and other hepatic enzymes. LFM-A13 is also shown to promote differentiation of stem cells into hepatocytes. LFM-A13 and structurally related compounds can be used in cell culture to enhance global drug metabolism of liver cells for enhanced in vitro study the effects of drug metabolism on other candidate drug compounds.
