    摘要: An antibacterial composition, includes: a borate-based glass material having a composition of: 0-25 wt. % SiO2, 30-75 wt. % B2O3, 0-10 wt. % P2O5, 0-30 wt. % Al2O3, 0-5 wt. % Li2O, 1-25 wt. % Na2O, 0-15 wt. % K2O, 0-10 wt. % MgO, 10-25 wt. % CaO, 12-30 wt. % MO, 8-25 wt. % R2O, and 30-75 (B2O3+Al2O3), such that at least one of P2O5 or Al2O3 is present, MO is the sum of MgO, CaO, SrO, and BaO, R2O is the sum of Na2O, K2O, Li2O, and Rb2O, and the borate-based glass material is configured to achieve at least a 3.5-log kill rate of at least one of E. coli, P. gingivalis, or S. mutans bacteria.

    摘要: A method of making a strengthened, antimicrobial glass article that includes: providing a glass article comprising a primary surface and ion-exchangeable alkali metal ions; providing a first molten salt bath comprising 60 to 95 wt. % alkali metal ions that are larger in size than the ion-exchangeable alkali metal ions; providing a second molten salt bath comprising alkali metal ions and about 1 to 10 wt. % silver ions; submersing the glass article in the first bath to exchange a portion of the ion-exchangeable alkali metal ions with a portion of the ions in the first bath to define a compressive stress layer extending from the primary surface to a DOL; and submersing the glass article in the second bath to exchange alkali metal ions in the compressive stress layer with a portion of the silver ions in the second bath to impart an antimicrobial property at the primary surface.

    摘要: A method of treating a substrate in a pressure vessel that includes the steps: preparing an ion-exchange bath with a bath composition that comprises a polar solvent and a plurality of ion-exchanging ions in a vessel; submersing a substrate having an outer region containing a plurality of exchangeable ions in the bath; pressurizing the bath in the vessel to a predetermined pressure substantially above ambient pressure; heating the bath in the vessel to a predetermined temperature; and treating the substrate for a predetermined ion-exchange duration at the predetermined pressure and temperature such that a portion of the plurality of exchangeable ions is exchanged with a portion of the ion-exchanging ions. The substrate can consist essentially of a glass, glass-ceramic or ceramic substrate composition, and the predetermined ion-exchange duration, temperature and pressure can each be selected based at least in part on the substrate composition and the bath composition.
