Abstract: A distributed base station radio system includes a first radio head configured to: communicate first analog radio frequency signals in a first radio frequency band with a first subscriber unit; convert between the first analog radio frequency signals in the first radio frequency band and a first digital broadband signal through at least one of frequency conversion and analog to digital conversion; a first broadband to channelized conversion unit communicatively coupled to the first radio head and configured to communicate the first digital broadband signal with the first broadband to channelized conversion unit; wherein the first broadband to channelized conversion unit is further configured to: communicate the first digital broadband signal; convert between the first digital broadband signal and first digital channelized data for the first radio frequency band; and communicate the first digital channelized data for the first radio frequency band with a first channelized radio frequency interface.

Abstract: A communication system includes master host unit, hybrid expansion unit, and remote antenna unit. Master host unit communicates analog signals with service provider interfaces. Hybrid expansion unit and remote antenna unit communicate analog spectrum over analog communication medium. Remote antenna unit transmits and receives wireless signals over air interfaces. Master host unit includes master clock distribution unit that generates digital master reference clock signal. Master host unit communicates digital master reference clock signal over communication link. Hybrid expansion unit receives digital master reference clock signal from master host unit over communication link and generates analog reference clock signal based on digital master reference clock signal. Hybrid expansion unit sends, and remote antenna unit receives, analog reference clock signal across analog communication medium.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide for a method for obtaining location information regarding a wireless unit in a distributed antenna system (DAS). The method includes identifying a first time of arrival of a wireless signal in a time and frequency unit at a first active antenna unit (AAU). A second time of arrival of the wireless signal in the time and frequency unit at a second AAU is also identified. A location of a wireless unit transmitting the wireless signal is estimated based on a location of the first AAU, a location of the second AAU, and a difference between the first time of arrival and the second time of arrival. The location of the wireless unit and an indication that the location corresponds to the time and frequency unit is sent to a baseband unit or serving mobile location center (SMLC).

Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to a host unit for a distributed antenna system. The host unit includes a first radio access network (RAN) interface module to communicate with a RAN node. The host unit also includes a distribution module configured to distribute transport signals between one or more downstream RJ45 connectors and the first RAN interface module. One or more non-permanent connectors are included to couple the distribution module to a second RAN interface module and one or more upstream RJ45 jacks. The one or more upstream RJ45 jacks are configured to pass Ethernet signals therethrough. The distribution module is configured to couple a downlink portion of the first transport signals and either a downlink portion of the second transport signals or a downlink Ethernet signal from one of the upstream RJ45 jacks to a first twisted pair cable connected to one of one or more downstream RJ45 jacks.
