Abstract: A communication system includes master host unit, hybrid expansion unit, analog remote antenna unit, and digital remote antenna unit. Master host unit communicates analog signals with at least a first service provider interface using first bands of analog spectrum. Master host unit and hybrid expansion unit communicate first N-bit words of digitized spectrum over first digital link. Hybrid expansion unit converts between first N-bit words and second bands of analog spectrum. Hybrid expansion unit and analog remote antenna unit communicate second bands over analog medium. Analog remote antenna unit transmits and receives first plurality of wireless signals over air interfaces. Master host unit and digital remote antenna unit communicate second N-bit words of digitized spectrum over second digital link. Digital remote antenna unit converts between second N-bit words and third bands of analog spectrum. Digital remote antenna unit transmits and receives second wireless signals over air interfaces.

Abstract: A host unit (for use within a DAS having a plurality of remote units communicatively coupled to the host unit) includes a plurality of base transceiver stations and a switch. Each base transceiver station is configured to operate on a RF channel. Each base transceiver station is configure to provide a downstream baseband digital signal to the switch and to receive an upstream baseband digital signal from the switch. Each downstream and upstream baseband digital signal is a digital representation of the RF channel at baseband of the respective base transceiver station. The switch is configured to route each downstream baseband digital signal to a respective subset of the remote units as one or more downstream serial data streams and to route each upstream baseband digital signal from one or more upstream serial data streams to a respective subset of the base transceiver stations.

Abstract: A communication system is provided. The communication system includes a master host unit that is adapted to communicate analog wireless signals with a plurality of service provider interfaces and that is adapted to send and receive digitized spectrum over a plurality of communication links. The master host unit includes circuitry for converting between analog wireless signals and digitized spectrum. The communication system further includes a plurality of remote units that are each communicatively coupled to one of the at least one remote server units over an analog communication medium. Each of the plurality of remote units is adapted to transmit and receive wireless signals over a plurality of air interfaces for the associated service provider interfaces.

Summer function digitally sums first digital data with third digital data derived from third base station to generate summed digital data for conversion to radio frequency signals and transmission at antenna. Third digital data comprises third series of third digital values associated with respective time periods. Summer function digitally sums first digital data with third digital data by digitally summing (i) first digital value associated with respective time period and (ii) third digital value associated with respective time period to produce summed value for respective time period.

Abstract: Digital distributed antenna systems and methods for advanced cellular communication protocols are provided. In one embodiment, a digital distributed antenna system comprises: a host unit; a plurality of remote antenna units each communicatively coupled to the host unit, wherein a first digitized RF signal comprising a plurality of data streams is communicated between the host unit and a first remote antenna unit of the plurality of remote antenna units; and a signal conditioning and control module that converts an original version of at least a first data stream to baseband data, wherein the signal conditioning and control module replaces the original version of the first data stream in the first digitized RF signal with a modified version of the first data stream by modifying data derived from the baseband data.

First universal remote radio head is further configured to transmit first downlink radio frequency signals in first radio frequency band to first subscriber unit.
