    摘要: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a substrate, a thin film transistor, a passivation film, a hydrogen barrier film, a pixel electrode, an organic light emitting layer, an opposite electrode, and a sealing film. The thin film transistor is provided on a major surface of the substrate. The thin film transistor includes a gate electrode, a gate insulating film, a semiconductor film, a first conducting portion, and a second conducting portion. The passivation film is provided on the thin film transistor. The hydrogen barrier film is provided on the passivation film. The pixel electrode is electrically connected to one of the first conducting portion and the second conducting portion. The organic light emitting layer is provided on the pixel electrode. The opposite electrode is provided on the organic light emitting layer. The sealing film is provided on the hydrogen barrier film and the opposite electrode.

The common electrode is provided on the organic light emitting layer. The sealing unit is provided on the common electrode. The sealing unit includes a first sealing film and a second sealing film. A refractive index of the second sealing film is different from a refractive index of the first sealing film.

The semiconductor layer is provided on the substrate. The semiconductor layer is made of an oxide having indium. The semiconductor layer has first and second regions and other region. The first insulating film covers a top face of the other region. The second insulating film covers at least a pair of side surfaces of the semiconductor layer. The second insulating film is formed under a condition different from that for the first insulating film. The gate electrode is provided on the first and second insulating films or below the semiconductor layer. The source and drain electrodes are provided on the first and second regions, respectively. The drain and source electrodes sandwich the pair of the side surfaces of the semiconductor layer.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal layer causing a selective reflection and exhibiting Kerr effect, first and second electrodes applying voltage to the liquid crystal layer, a first circular polarizer disposed between the liquid crystal layer and a viewer and allowing a first circularly polarized light incident on the liquid crystal layer when irradiated with a natural light, the first circularly polarized light having an electric-field vector rotating in a direction reverse to a rotation direction of an electric-field vector of a circularly polarized light selectively reflected by the liquid crystal layer, and a second circular polarizer facing the first circular polarizer with the liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween and allowing a second circularly polarized light incident on the liquid crystal layer when irradiated with a natural light.

    摘要: According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal layer exhibiting Kerr effect, a first electrode including combtooth portions, a second electrode, and protruding portions facing a main surface of the liquid crystal layer with at least one of the first and second electrodes interposed therebetween. The combtooth portions each extends in a first direction and are arranged in a second direction. The second electrode includes a portion that faces the main surface and is positioned in a gap between the combtooth portions or faces the main surface with the gap interposed therebetween. The protruding portions each extends in the first direction and are arranged in the second direction. Each of the first protruding portions forms a convex surface having a ridge shape on a surface of the combtooth portion or a surface of the portion of the second electrode positioned at the gap.
