The feeder line is connected to a dynamoelectric machine. A substation connection is connected to a substation bus. An interrupting breaker is connected between the feeder input connection and the substation connection. A shorting switch is connected to the feeder input connection, and an impedance device is connected to the shorting switch and a ground or neutral. The impedance device, shorting switch and ground/neutral reduces excessive voltages on the feeder line when the feeder line is isolated from the substation by the circuit breaker, and the impedance device is selected to reduce a torque transient experienced by the dynamoelectric machine.

A method and system for reducing the cost of a combined offshore wind generation plant is provided by coupling the AC output of plural wind turbine generators to a single AC-DC converter prior to transmission of the DC power to an onshore DC-AC inverter site. The wind speed is monitored at selected locations within the wind plant, optionally, at selected turbine generators, and the operating frequency of the AC-DC converter is adjusted in accordance with a combine wind speed signal to permit operation of the plural wind turbines as a group. AC-DC followed by DC-AC conversions decouples the AC frequency produced by the wind turbines and allows the turbines to operate at variable frequency as a group.

A torsional protection system and method is provided for protecting a wind turbine from undesired torsional oscillations. The torsional protection system includes a detection processing stage that isolates energy contained within a measured signal to a frequency band of interest. An input to the detection processing stage is obtained from at least one component in the wind turbine. A protection logic stage compares the energy to a threshold level to get an indication of an amount of the energy that is above a predetermined threshold. The torsional content of the signal can be measured and monitored so that if the torsional content exceeds the predetermined threshold for a predetermined time an alarm or trip signal can be generated.

The method includes, monitoring an output parameter of the power generation and delivery system and determining a rate of change of the output parameter as a function of time. A reactive current command signal is generated a as a function of the determined rate of change of the output parameter. Operation of a power converter is controlled based at least partially on the reactive current command signal to facilitate maintaining a substantially constant terminal voltage as the power output of the power generation and delivery system is increased.

The regulator is configured to receive the regulator stabilization signal, generate a first command signal, based at least partially on the regulator stabilization signal, that reduces system oscillations, and transmit the first command signal to the converter interface controller.
