摘要:
A wound closure apparatus having a housing that contains a vacuum pump and a chamber for holding a disposable wound fluid collection canister. The canister resides within the chamber and connects at an outlet with the vacuum pump at an inlet with a porous wound pad. The pad is placed over or within a wound and adhesively secured thereto. When the vacuum pump activates, it evacuates air from the canister resulting in wound fluids flowing from the wound into the canister. Due to the negative effect that a vacuum can impose on tissue when granulation tissue is pulled into the pad, the pad contains multiple pore sizes to prevent granulation tissue from migrating into the pad. The pad has an outer surface adjacent the wound with pore sizes of a diameter of approximately 100 microns or less to prevent tissue from growing into the pad and is treated for biocompatibility.

A wound closure system and method having a porous pad for providing a reduced pressure to a tissue site is disclosed. The porous pad comprises a porous material formed by spraying a chemical substance that cures to form the porous material which has a body and an outer surface. Both the body and the outer surface have pores wherein the average size of the pores in the outer surface is smaller than the average size of the pores in the body. The porous pad further comprises a pathway formed within the porous material that is adapted to fluidly communicate with a source of reduced pressure.

A method for artifact reduction in sonomicrometer obtained intracranial pressure measurements generally comprises isolating a component of a sonomicrometer waveform attributable solely to changes in intracranial volume by using a neural network or other nonlinear engine to extract a heartbeat component from the sonomicrometer output. Because the heartbeat is so characteristic, no actual measurement of the heartbeat as the forcing function is required to isolate the resulting changes in distance from the artifact induced changes in distance. The neural network then be utilized to directly map measured changes in skull distance over time to changes in intracranial pressure over a volume change, the inverse of compliance. The method is generally extendable to use with other volumetric based measurement techniques.

Wound fluid blood detection systems and methods are described that are operable in conjunction with reduced pressure wound treatment (RPWT) systems, as well as ancillary therapy and monitoring systems applied concurrently with RPWT systems. The blood detection monitor operates by optically characterizing the content of wound fluids to the extent of identifying percentage blood content. This identification relies upon the transmission of select wavelengths of light across a volume of wound fluid to a photo detector (connected to signal processing instrumentation) capable of quantifying the absorption characteristics of the fluid. The detection components may be implemented in conjunction with either a fluid flow conduit (i.e. the reduced pressure tubing directing fluid away from the wound dressing) or more directly in association with the materials that comprise the wound dressing positioned within the wound bed itself. In addition, the present invention is configured to operate in conjunction with blood gas monitoring, systems operating with the RPWT. Finally, the components of the systems that serve to illuminate the wound bed, lend themselves to use in conjunction with illumination in discreet electromagnetic wave wavelengths suitable for the application of phototherapy.

A device for directly applying thermotherapeutic liquid to an area upon the surface of an afflicted patient, and methods of use thereof, are described. In particular, a device for apply water-based liquid at a therapeutic temperature directly to an afflicted area in order to create a localized hyperthermia, is presented. The afflicted area may be either on the skin of the patient, or subcutaneous. The device is also effective for disinfection, irrigation, lavage, and the like, when employing a suitable solution. The liquid may also have a mild oxidizing effect, which, if greater upon afflicted than upon non-afflicted cells, would enhance the therapeutic effect in conjunction with the therapy herein described.

A method and apparatus for the introduction to a wound under subatmospheric pressure therapy of a wound healing agent, generally comprises a foam pad (11) for insertion substantially into a wound site (12), and a wound drape (13) for sealing enclosure of the foam pad at the wound site. The foam pad is placed in fluid communication with a subatmospheric pressure source for promotion of fluid drainage. Additionally, the foam pad is predisposed, through grafting or other techniques known to those of ordinary skill in the art, with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), anti-microbial or other factors, also known to those of ordinary skill in the art, for the promotion of increased wound healing.
