    Abstract: Technologies are generally described for generating pilot signal patterns in a base station, such as a small-cell base station, or a self-organizing network (SON) in a mobile communication system. Example devices/systems described herein may include one or more of a storage unit, a control unit and/or a communication unit in a base station. The storage unit may be configured to store a pilot signal pattern corresponding to a power variation between a first power level and a second power level. The control unit may be coupled to the storage unit and configured to generate a pilot signal in accordance with the stored pilot signal pattern. Further, the communication unit may be coupled to the control unit and configured to transmit the generated pilot signal such that any nearby mobile stations (or user equipment) can use the signal to perform cell selection or re-selection.

    Abstract: Briefly stated, technologies are generally described for displaying a holographic image on a mobile device with a reference beam provided from a light source station. Example devices/systems described herein may use one or more of a mobile device and/or one or more light source stations. In various examples, the mobile device may include a holographic image display unit configured to receive a reference beam and display the holographic image responsive to the reference beam. The light source station may be configured to track a location of the holographic image display unit and provide a reference beam towards the holographic image display unit. The light source station may be further configured to exchange a control signal with the mobile device such that the holographic image display unit is operable to display the holographic image based on the control signal.

    Abstract: Technologies are generally described for activation of actuators based on sensed user characteristics, such as orientation. In some examples, an access control system may be configured to activate an actuator upon determining that an activation device is both in proximity to and has a similar orientation to the actuator. The access control system may be configured to determine orientation similarity by determining an orientation associated with the activation device, determining an orientation associated with the actuator, and comparing a difference between the two orientations to an activation threshold. The actuator may be associated with an entryway such as a building doorway, a room doorway, or a vehicle door, or may be associated with a container such as a safe or vehicle trunk.

    Abstract: Technologies are generally described for identifying whether a propagation path between a mobile device and an access point is line-of-sight. In some examples, a method performed under control of a mobile device may include receiving, from an access point, a first signal transmitted at a first frequency band; receiving, from the access point, a second signal transmitted at a second frequency band; measuring a difference value between propagation properties of the first signal and the second signal; and identifying whether a propagation path between the mobile device and the access point is line-of-sight or non-line-of-sight based at least in part on the difference value.
