Abstract: An embodiment method for adaptation and reconfiguration in a wireless network includes base stations coordinating and setting aside a set of time-frequency resources for probing purposes, the base stations coordinating a set of probing transmissions and timings to be used to synchronize base stations/DEs actions, the base stations signaling the resources and timings to UEs, the base stations performing coordinated operations on the resources according to the timings, the base stations receiving feedback reports from UEs based on UE measurements on the signaled resources according to the signaled timings, and the base stations further coordinating the operations for further probing or to apply probing transmissions on broader time-frequency resources.

Abstract: A system and method of subframe configuration in licensed-assisted access using long-term evolution (LAA-LTE) with carrier aggregation (CA). A wireless device such as an eNodeB (eNB) may transmit control information in a subframe from a secondary cell (SCell) in downlink control information (DCI) to a user equipment (UE). The SCell may operate in an unlicensed band. The control information may indicate at least one of a non-ending subframe in a data burst, an ending subframe, and a duration of the ending subframe. The duration may be one of a predefined number of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol durations, and the ending subframe may be a partial or full subframe. A partial ending subframe may use a time slot structure in a time division duplexing (TDD) scheme, e.g., downlink pilot time slots (DwPTS). The eNB may then transmit to the UE data in the subframe according to the control information.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for implementing network adaptation schemes, including small cell on/off adaptation and transmission power control. In an embodiment method for supporting network adaptation, a network component receives a discovery reference signal (DRS) from a network controller that is in a switch-off transmission mode. The network component then performs measurements according to the DRS, and reports the measurements to a network associated with the network controller. In return, the network component receives a radio resource control (RRC) signaling from the network. The RRC signaling includes configuration information allowing a connection between the network component and the network controller. The network component then connects with the network controller in accordance with the configuration information.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a base station configuring component carriers to user equipment (UE). The base station determines one or more component carriers to configure based on the UE carrier aggregation capability and sends a first configuration signaling to configure the UE with the component carriers in one or more component carrier sets. The base station configures each of the component carrier sets with a first common parameters and operations set and sends a second configuration signaling to configure the component carrier sets of the UE with the first common parameters and operations set. The base station then sends a third configuration signaling to configure each of the component carriers in the UE with a second parameters and operations set.

Abstract: A network controller may configure one or more channel state information-reference signal (CSI-RS) configurations for transmitting RSs to user equipments (UEs) for tracking. A CSI-RS configuration may specify a set of CSI-RS resources for transmitting RSs in two consecutive slots. The set of CSI-RS resources may include a plurality of one-port CSI-RS resources configured according to the CSI-RS configuration. The CSI-RS configuration may specify a quasi co-location (QCL) configuration including a set of QCL parameters, where a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) has a QCL relationship with the RS with respect to the set of QCL parameters. The network controller may signal the one or more CSI-RS configurations to UEs.

Abstract: User Equipments (UEs) may be assigned a set of aggregated component carriers for downlink carrier aggregation and/or carrier selection. Some UEs may be incapable of transmitting uplink signals over all component carriers in their assigned set of aggregated component carriers. In such scenarios, a UE may need to perform SRS switching in order to transmit SRS symbols over all of the component carriers. Embodiments of this disclosure provide various techniques for facilitating SRS switching. For example, a radio resource control (RRC) message may be used to signal a periodic SRS configuration parameter. As another example, a downlink control indication (DCI) message may be used to signal an aperiodic SRS configuration parameter. Many other examples are also provided.

Abstract: Communications in a wireless network for carrier Selection and switching are provided. A terminal in the wireless network is simultaneously receiving data on at most m carriers. A base station in the wireless network sends an activation command associated with more than m carriers to the terminal. The terminal activates the more than m carriers. Then the base station selects a first subset from the activated carriers, and sends a first monitoring command associated with the first subset via a first physical-layer signaling to the terminal. When load and/or interference situations are changed, the base station selects a second subset from the activated carriers, and sends a second monitoring command associated with the second subset via a second physical-layer signaling to the terminal, wherein the first subset is different from the second subset.

Abstract: System and method embodiments are provided for network adaption and utilization of a discovery signal (DS). In an embodiment, a method in a UE for communicating in a wireless network includes receiving a parameter(s) from a network controller, wherein the parameter provides the UE with an activation time frame within which the UE can expect to receive a common reference signal (CRS) from a network component, a deactivation time frame within which the UE is not to expect to receive the CRS, and information for receiving and processing a DS from the network component; receiving the DS from the network component, wherein a structure and format of the DS conforms to the parameter received by the UE; refraining from attempting to perform CRS based procedures when the CRS is not received; and performing one of synchronization, cell identification, and DS based radio resource management (RRM) measurements according to the DS.
